Johnnie Earl Himes
Funeral for Johnnie Earl Himes, 68, was held in First United Methodist Church in Rush Springs at 2 pm today, Monday, Dec. 21, 1987, with Rev. Tom Hoffman and Rev. Walter Knox officiating.
He was born Nov. 11, 1919, in Whitesboro, Texas, and died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1987, in an Oklahoma City Hospital after a long illness.
Mr. Himes had lived in Rush Springs since 1925. He was owner of the Western Auto Store for 25 years. He was also a rural mail carrier.
He was married Dec. 25, 1944, in Rader, Mo., to Viola Davis.
Mr. Himes was a veteran of World War II, serving as a medic. He was also in C.C.C.
He was a member of the City Council of Rush Springs for six years, a member of the Lions Club in Rush Springs, and served as a fireman for 20 years, with three years as chief. He was a member of the American Legion and the DAV.
He was a member of the Baptist Church of Bailey.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Viola Himes of Rush Springs; one son, Ron Himes of Rush Springs; one sister, Corene Mann of Rush Springs.
Burial was in Rush Springs Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Chapel, Rush Springs.
