December 17, 2016 Ada Mae [Tims] English Ada Mae English passed away Saturday, December 17, 2016 in Chickasha. She was 93. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at the Southern Baptist Church- Rush Springs, with Rev. Paul Phipps officiating. Burial will be in the Rush Springs Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services in Rush Springs. Ada was born Monday, January 29, 1923 in Rush Springs to Alva Jennings Tims and Ada [Nix] Tims. Her mother died during childbirth, so she was named after her, then raised by her paternal grandparents, John W. and Anna Katherine Tims. Ada Mae was a graduate of Rush Springs High School in the Class of 1940. That was a big year for Ada Mae, she was selected as the first Watermelon Festival Queen, an honor she always treasured. She also married the love of her life in 1940, A.J. English in Rush Springs. He preceded her in death on September 11, 1976. They managed the local Ford dealership where she was the accountant /bookkeeper. Ada Mae was a member of the Eastern Star. She had many interest and hobbies from working crossword puzzles, quilting, to cooking and gave she classes on painting Porcelain and China dishes. Ada Mae was always busy, she strived to remain young, keeping her nails done, walking and staying fit. She was a confident, well read woman, keeping informed on National and International affairs and was known to be outspoken on her views as a strong Democrat. Ada Mae was a lovely, sweet lady who defined grace and beauty as a strong independent woman. She will be remembered as a dear friend, loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother who will be missed greatly. She was a member of the Southern Baptist Church in Rush Springs. |
