May 2000 Alta Elizabeth [McCulloch] Davis March 29, 1902 ~ May 17, 2000 A service for Alta M Davis, age 98, of Chickasha, was held at 10,30 a.m. on May 22, 2000, in the Rush Springs Cemeterv Pastor Danny Vaughn officiated. Graveside service was under the direction of the Brown-Binyon Funeral Home, Chickasha The family held a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at Epworth United United Methodist Church. THe Rev. Larrv Jacobson officiated Alta M. Davis was born on March 29, 1902, the daughter of Samuel Bingham McCulloch and Mary Ellen Moser McCulloch in Waukomis. She died on Wednesday, May 17, 2000, in Chickasha. Mrs. Davis graduated from Chickasha High School and attended Central State Teachers College in Edmond. In 1921, she moved to Rush Springs where she taught school as a regular teacher for four years, then as a substitute teacher for 15 years. It was in Rush Springs that she met and married Jefferson Lee Davis on December 27, 1922. They had three children, Richard Carl, Randall Lee and Laura Virginia. Mrs. Davis was a receptionist in the Oklahoma House of Representatives during the 1961 and 1963 legislative sessions. She was a housemother at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha for eight years. After her retirement from USAO, she was asked to be a counselor at the Jane Brooks School of the Deaf where she served as "mother" to several teenage girls for six years. Mrs. Davis was always involved in community affairs on the local, county and state level. This included the Eastern Star, the Rush Springs Flower Club, the Retired Teachers Association, Grady County Democratic Women, and the Ohoyahoma Club, a fellowship of legislative wives. However, her primary love and activities were those involved with the United Methodist Church. She taught youth and adult Sunday School classes for 21 years and was a charter member of the United Methodist Women. She served as conference secretary of Campus Ministry and was on the board of directors of the Wesley Foundation in Norman. She held many local and district offices in UMW and worked with the Oklahoma Indian Conference. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jefferson Lee Davis, in 1960; a son, Randall Lee Davis in 1964; three brothers, Ray Hearl, and Stanley McCulloch; two sisters, Ethel Toomer and Effie Reagan. |

Elmer Whitehead officiating. Burial will be in the Rush Springs Cemetery under the direction of Callaway~Smith~Cobb Chapel. Thada was born May 26, 1918, in Rush Springs to Luther and Nanny [Carry] Gilpin and died Saturday, November 29, 2003, in the Grace Living Center. On September 2, 1943, she married Floyd E. Davis in Marlow. He preceded her in death in 1978. She was a lifelong resident of the Rush Springs area. She enjoyed quilting, loved to travel and work in her garden. She enjoyed attending her Sunday School Class and loved to cook peanut butter cookies. Survivors include: Son: David Davis and wife Jo Vaughn, Verden; two grandsons: Landon and Patrick Davis of Verden; one sister~in~law: Jean Gilpin and a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; 1 brother; 1 sister, 2 daughters: Pamela and Pauline Davis. Songs included: Amazing Grace, I'll Meet You In The Morning; Green Pastures and I'm Going Home. Singers were: Candy McGhyghy, Karen Goodwin and Karen Payne. February 2018 Arnold Lawson Davis May 1, 1924 ~ February 9, 2018 Marlow: Arnold Lawson Davis, 93, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 9, 2018 in Marlow. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at the Glory Bound Church, with Rev. David Woods officiating. Burial will follow in the Rush Springs Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs. Arnold was born Thursday, May 1, 1924 in Carnegie, to John and Ella Mae [Rudd] Davis. He was raised in the Carnegie area and graduated from Carnegie High School. Arnold was a World War II Veteran in the Air Force, who served from December 7, 1942 to November 4, 1945 as a flight engineer and top gunner. He had a passion for baseball and had played in the minor triple A league. Arnold signed with the Cleveland Indians and was traded to the Cincinnati Reds. He was an avid farmer and rancher and was active in peanut farming in Rush Springs for many years. Arnold married his loving wife Patsy Heard on February 4, 1972 in Rush Springs, they had been married for 46 wonderful years before his passing. He had made a lasting impression on children as he taught Sunday school at the Assembly of God Church and was a Royal Ranger Commander. Survivors include, his wife, Pat Davis of the home, 2 sons, Sonny Davis of Marlow, Harmon Davis and Ashley Brown of Marlow, 2 daughters, Linda McCutcheon and husband Terry of Marlow, daughter, Regina Simpson and husband Tony of Bridge Creek. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Stanton, Brendan, Courtney, Phillip, Daniel, Jessie, Jennifer, Joshua, Crystal, Rocky, Kaley, Holden, Houston, Kadyn, Maverick, 20 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 grandsons, Jonathan Ball, Dax Davis, a sister, Violet Becker, and an uncle, John Rudd. |
© The Chickasha Express-Star Chickasha, Oklahoma Tuesday, October 9, 1951 Burl Arthur Davis October 28, 1929 ~ October 7, 1951 Shock Victims Services Today Services were scheduled in Rush Springs this afternoon for two men killed in an oil field accident Sunday afternoon near Mountain View. Last rites for Vernon Lindsay, 33, were at 1:30 pm at the Methodist Church by Rev. W. T. Veatch, pastor. Burial was in Rush Springs Cemetery. Services for Burl Davis, 21, were at 3:30 pm at Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. J. B. Shinn, pastor , in charge. Burial was in Rush Springs Cemetery. Two other men, Marvin Moats, Hobart, and H. W. Sparks, Rush Springs, were injured, but are expected to recover. The four men were pulling a sucker rod from a water well, near an oil well. It fell across an REA line. According to information at Rush Springs, Lindsey and Davis absorbed most of the electrical shock before it reached Moats and Sparks, who were at the lower end of the rod. Moats revived and staggered to the highway to stop a motorist who went for help. Sparks was revived with artificial respiration and is expected to recover. He was taken to a Hobart hospital. The men were employed on the No. 1 Chappelear oil well being drilled three miles west of Mountain View. Lindsey is survived by his wife and three small children, who live in Rush Springs; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lindsey, south of Rush Springs, and two sisters, Dorothy, who lives in Texas, and Mrs. Wynona Smith of Rush Springs. Davis was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Osa Davis of Rush Springs. Both Lindsey and Davis were reared in Rush Springs and are graduate of the schools of that community. |

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 in the Rush Springs Cemetery, with Chaplain Johnny Tims officiating. Services are under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Ocie was born Wednesday, November 18, 1931 in Rush Springs, to Osa Finn and Eva Ann [Worden] Davis. He was a life long resident of Rush Springs. During his younger days, Ocie worked in various fruit stands and watermelon fields. He loved to be outdoors. Ocie served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. He worked as a highway maintenance operator for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation for many years before his retirement. Ocie enjoyed following Rush Springs sports and attending games any time he could. Ocie also followed his favorite sports teams on TV. He enjoyed dancing, eating out, going to the casinos, and being with friends and family. Most of all, Ocie enjoyed life. He attended Vimy Ridge Baptist Church in Rush Springs. Survivors include, numerous nieces and nephews, brother-in-law, Charles Woody and wife Ophelia of El Reno. Ocie was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, and three sisters. |
