June 1900 Almeda J. "Allie" [Martin] Caywood Almeda J. "Allie" Martin was born 17 November 1867 in Cooke County, Texas to John Wesley Martin, originally of Mississippi, & Louisa A Parsons Martin, originally of Missouri. She was one of 10 children born to the couple. On 18 November 1883, when she was just 16, she married 22-year-old S C Cawood, or Samuel Culbertson Caywood, in Cooke County, Texas. This is the first record of Almeda going by the nickname Allie. They would have at least 6 children before Allie's death: Emma [1887-?], Otto [1889-1966], Harry [1892-1970], Belle [1895-1951], Monroe [1897-1944] & Martin [1899-1960]. Allie & Samuel moved from Cooke County, Texas to Indian Territory sometime between the births of Belle and Monroe. In the area that is now Rush Springs, Allie passed in 1900, though Samuel married again and resided in Rush Springs through statehood until his death in 1912. At that time, he was buried next to his first wife. Most of Allie's family remained in Texas. |
