Cleo Tommie Byrd
May 13, 1925 ~ March 10, 2019


Cleo Tommie Byrd* age 93 of Oklahoma City, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Norman Regional Hospital.

Cleo was born May 13, 1925 in Memphis, Texas. He was the youngest of 10 children born to Willie J. Byrd and Luvica Jane [Salings] Bryd.

Cleo grew up a farm boy living in the Alex and Chickasha areas. He learned how to work hard with his siblings by working in the cotton and broomcorn fields.

At the age of 19, he married a young lady from Chickasha named Lena Bell Bramlett. They were married on July 1, 1944 in Chickasha and together they raised six children.

Cleo lived and worked in the Oklahoma City area most all of his life. One of his first jobs was working for the Santa Fe Railroad. He later worked as a frame carpenter until he started his own Janitorial Cleaning Service business in the OKC area. Cleo worked for himself most of his life and trained up his children in the cleaning business. Cleo was a hard worker and a good provider to his family.

Cleo was a faithful Christian man and was a member of S. E. Church of God in OKC for many years. He later attended other churches in Chickasha and Norman.

After his wife Lena passed away, Cleo remarried several years later, marring Margaret Lamb in 2010. Throughout his life, Cleo loved being in the outdoors, he enjoyed raising, training and riding horses and he loved fishing. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by: Nine brothers and sisters, First wife, Lena Bell Byrd in 2008, Son, Tommie Byrd, Two daughters, Emma Lee Byrd and Diana Ledford.

He is survived by: Wife, Margaret Byrd of OKC. Children, Alvin Byrd and wife Vicky of Sterling, OK,Ramona Reyes of Norman, Janell Ann Williams and husband Jason of Lindsay, Jimmy Bridges of Tyler, TX and Rick Young of OKC, OK; 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 5 Great great grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, March 15, 2019 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell, OK. Interment will follow at Rush Springs Cemetery in Rush Springs, OK.

Lena Bell [Bramlett] Byrd

Lena 'Bell' Byrd, 78, of OKC, received her wings for Heaven on Jan. 20, 2008. Born Dec. 5, 1929 to Sterling and Cleo V. Bramlett in Anadarko, OK. She has four siblings, Edna Jones, OKC, OK, Betty Hall and Jewell Gonzales, Chickasha, OK, and David Rexro of Ft. Cobb, OK.

She married the love of her life, Cleo T. Byrd on July 1, 1944. They were blessed with five children: two sons, Alvin Byrd and wife Vicky, Donnie Bussell and wife Gail, both of OKC, OK; three daughters, Diana Ledford and husband Jack, Ramona Reyes and husband Stan, both of OKC, OK, Janell Williams and husband Jason, Yukon, OK. She raised three boys as her own, Ricky Young, OKC, OK, Jimmy Bridges, Taylor, TX, Bobby Bridges, Noble, OK; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other friends and relatives.

Awaiting her in Heaven are two children, Tommy Ray Byrd and Emma Byrd; her beloved Uncle Homer; and many relatives and friends.

She attended church since being saved when she was just 15 years old. She retired from Janitorial work when her health began failing her in 2005.

She was a hard working wonderful wife for 63 years. She not only raised her own children, but many from broken homes. Her kitchen was always open, at any hour, day or night; always a place to rest, a caring ear to listen, and a smile on her face. A beautiful mother with a heart of pure gold. She had the kindest spirit, loved unconditionally and brought happiness to so many. You will be forever missed.

Services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, Jan. 23rd, at Vondel Smith South Colonial Chapel. Committal service will be 2:00 PM at Rush Springs Cemetery.
