Opal Gladys [Henderson] Burnett

Opal Gladys Burnett, 94, Chickasha, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, May 1, 2006 in Chickasha.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs, with Rev. Elmer Whitehead officiating. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Freeman, John Freeman, David Freeman, Austin Wilkenson, Kent Burnett & Tim Davis; all are her grandsons.

Burial will be in the Rush Springs Cemetery, under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs, Oklahoma.

Opal was born Thursday, April 4, 1912 in Lambert, Oklahoma, to the late Elbert Henderson and the late Cora [Oringderff] Henderson.

Opal attended school at Duke.

She married Loy William Burnett on July 8, 1933 in Duke, OK. They moved to Rush Springs in 1938. They owned the Rush Springs Hardware Store from 1955 to 1970.

Loy preceded her in death on March 15, 1992.

In 2000 Opal moved to Chickasha where she lived the remainder of her life. She enjoyed reading and visiting with her children and grandchildren.

Opal was very active in her church and enjoyed having Sunday school parties at her house.

She also enjoyed working in the gardens and watching the birds. Opal had one of the prettiest yards that was covered with flowers year around.

She was a member of the Southern Baptist Church in Rush Springs.

Survivors include, three sons, George Durwood Burnett of Chickasha, OK; Loy William Burnett III & wife Pamela of Lawton, OK; Jerald Wayne Burnett & wife Kathy of Lawton, OK; three daughters, Rita Jean Christian of Chickasha, OK; Bonita Pearl Freeman & husband James of Chickasha, OK; Darlene Newlin of Louisville, KY; 18 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; 16 great great grandchildren; brother, Carroll Henderson of Bixby, OK; two sisters, Doris Wallace of Altus, OK; Zelma Hunt of Sapulpa, OK; several nieces & Nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three grandchildren, Leslie Nicole Burnett, Loy William Burnett IV and Vickie Dianne Jackson; one great granddaughter, Jessica Meagan Christian; parents and 2 sisters.
