Garrett Austin "Dick" Blain

Garrett Austin "Dick" Blain, 84, of Rush Springs, Okla., passed away Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, in Oklahoma City.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, with George Ramsey and Rev. David Hale officiating.

Burial will be in Rush Springs Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs.

Dick was born Monday, Dec. 3, 1923, in the Agawam area to Festus Blain and Ruth Bess Blain.

He was a lifelong resident of Rush Springs.

Dick married Sylvia Fay Nicholson on Aug. 24, 1948, in Oklahoma City. She preceded him in death on Jan. 17, 1998.

Dick enjoyed playing cards and dominoes at the Rush Springs Senior Citizens Center. He loved hanging out at Hop-n-Sac with his friends, drinking coffee and talking.

As a young man Dick was an avid hunter and fisherman. "Junking" was also among his many hobbies.

Survivors include two daughters, Sherrie Webb of Noble, and Judy Klinnert and husband Floyd of Lancaster, Calif.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Blain and wife Janelle, and Joe Blain and wife Mary, all of Rush Springs; two sisters, June Ramsey and husband George of Oklahoma City, and Erlene Holder of Blanchard; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Fay Blain; his parents; one brother, Doug Blain; and one daughter, Janna Hoard.
