Pocasset Man and Rush Girl Die in Traffic

Clifford Casey, 42, Pocasset, and Jeanita Lynn Bennett, 3, of near Rush Springs were killed in two widely separated traffic accidents at about the same time Wednesday noon.

[Info related to Casey omited.]

Trooper Charlie Rice who was called from Lawton to investigate the Rush Springs accident while Trooper Smith was at Pocasset, told this story of the girl's death:

Little Jeanita, two years and seven months old, was standing in the truck seat between her father, Leo Richard Bennett, Route 2, Rush Springs, who was driving, and her mother [Marie [Kight] Bennett]. The latter was holding a 17-months old baby on her lap. The truck hit a rough place in the road, throwing the mother forward. Jeanita fell over her mother's back and out of the truck, which did not have a door.

The examining physician told Trooper Rice death was caused by cerebral hemorrhage, apparently the result of the girl hitting the ground on her head. The truck stopped on the girl's body.

The body was taken to the Mullican Funeral Home at Rush Springs.
