Abraham "Babe' Yates

Funeral Friday for Babe Yates

Services for Babe Yates, 67, 1307 South Eight, will be at 3 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Chickasha Funeral home, Rev. Orval Holt, officiating.

Mr. Yates, in failing health for the past month, died at 10 a.m. Wednesday. He was born Nov. 3, 1888, in Pope County, Arkansas.

He came from El Reno where he had been associated in the furniture business with a brother. Mr. Yates had been engaged in the furniture business most of his life. His father operated one of the first furniture stores in Oklahoma Territory from a tent in Lawton. Mr. Yates formerly owned and operated the Owen-Yates Furniture Co. here from 1918 until 1931. he also was engaged in real estate and the automotive business. For the past 15 years he had been employed at Grifffin Furniture Co.

He was a member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Bess Yates of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Joy Rene Powell, Oklahoma City; one granddaughter; four brother, Felix Yates of Ardmore, Millis Yates, of Fresno, Calif., Gabe Yates of Enid, and Howell Yates of Portland, Ore.; three sister, Polly of St. Louis, Mo., Sylvia of Albuquerque, N.M., and Mrs. H.M. Miller of Lubbock, Tex.

Babe Yates Funeral Held

Funeral service for Babe Yates was conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in Chickasha Funeral home chapel with Rev. Orval Holt officiating. A duet composed of Mrs. Harry Goss and Joe Johnson sang, "In the Garden," and "Beyond the Sunset," accompanied by Mrs. Frieda Young.

Active pallbearers were: Emery Conrad, John Morris, Norman Frye, Seabrook Griffin, Leon Hill and Dr. A.W. Wallace.

Honorary pallbearers were: Lucian Erwin, Marcus Weaver, Ralph Conrad, Burt Luginbyhl, Clyde Turner, Harry Goss, Tex Grimsley and Seabrook Griffin, Jr.

Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery under direction of Chickasha Funeral home.
