© The Tuttle News Tuttle, Oklahoma Thursday, July 15, 1926 December 16, 1841 ~ July 7, 1926 In the passing of Mrs M. E. Tripp of Chickasha on Wednesday July 7th this section lost one of its best pioneer citizens. For over forty years she had been foremost ranks working in the best interests of the people. Coming to Chickasaw Nation where there was no trading point nearer than Gainesville, Texas and not a trail leading direct to there, lived to see as she expressed it "A beautiful country well on the road to development and a fit place to live." Her only regret when knowing she was about to go was that of leaving her children, for she loved them so and was so happy with them. Three children of her six survive. Mrs Sallie Baker, Mrs Emma Daniels and Perry Dawson all of Chickasha, gave her every attention in her last years and waited thro all the hours of her last few days of illness. The funeral at the Methodist [church] was largely attended and the talk by Rev Abernathy consoling. His text appropriate to the one of whom he was talking. "I have fought a good fight, I have kept the faith" was true in her case. No better friend to young people than she, and her home was ever open to those who needed a friend or comfort. Tho she had lived to pass the four score mark in years yet she would have stayed on to be with her children, friends and knowing the influence she shed among her children, grand children and other relatives, we know this must have been her thought when she could no longer speak. A life beautifully lived and an example to her children, grand children, and great grand [children] as well as to her many friends all over this section of Oklahoma. |
