August 3, 1948 ~ December 13, 2010 Funeral services for Phillip David Thomas, age 62, of Chickasha, Oklahoma will be 10 a.m., Thursday, December 16, 2010 at College Heights Baptist Church, Chickasha, OK. Phillip David Thomas was born August 3, 1948 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Billy Ray "Bill" Thomas and Gloria LaVelle [McClellan] Thomas. He passed away Monday, December 13, 2010 in Chickasha, Oklahoma of heart disease. David lived around the Chickasha area most of his life. He earned a BS Degree in Business from USAO and Masters of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in May of 1968 and served in Vietnam until he was honorably discharged in 1969. He received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. David was a carpenter, general contractor, railroad conductor and engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad. He was a former member of the First Baptist Church where he was an ordained Deacon. David also organized the Adult Singles Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in the 1980's. David loved singing in the choir and solo music. He helped build and performed in The Living Christmas Tree at First Baptist Church. He currently was a member of College Heights Baptist Church where he enjoyed driving the church bus. David was active in the community. He served at times on the Chickasha City Council and the Chickasha School Board among many other community services. He was preceded in death by: His wife: Kathy Jane Thomas of Mountain Park, Oklahoma, Grandparents: Bob and Ruby McClellan of Ninnekah, OK, Ray and Carrie Thomas of Chickasha, OK. He is survived by: 2 Sons: Drs. Darren and Yvan Thomas from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kory and Rebecca Thomas from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Parents: Bill and LaVelle Thomas of Chickasha, Oklahoma, Brother: Carl Richard "Rick" Thomas of Chickasha, Oklahoma, Sister: Gloria Gaynelle Wyatt and husband, Larry, from Chickasha, Oklahoma. Many nieces, nephews and cousins. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. |
