Jeannie Marie [Cavel] Smith

Funeral service for Jeannie Marie Cavel Smith, 51, of Chickasha, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at the First Christian Church in Chickasha. Rev. Michael Oberlander will officiate.

Jeannie was born the daughter of William "Bill" Cavel and Billie Marie DeKinder on Feb. 3, 1958, in Chickasha. She died on Nov. 8, 2009 in Chickasha.

An exceptionally talented artist who graduated from USAO with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, Jeannie was constantly scouring the countryside for unusual items to paint.

Jeannie was a member of First Christian Church and the Secret Sisters Friends Group. She was an active humanitarian, taking food or money to those who were less fortunate. She was also one of the caregivers for her beloved grandmother, Bernetta. Jeannie was also an animal activist. She loved all animals and frequently would rescue injured or homeless cats and dogs.

Her greatest joy in life was her passion for garage sales and finding bargains for her antique booth. She didn't simply go to garage sales, but had a systematic method of mapping the garage sales in order to beat everyone else to the bargains.

Jeannie married Jerry Smith on Jan. 10, 1985 in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

She was preceded in death by Bill Cavel, Kent Cavel, Bill and Bernetta DeKinder, Dick and Alma Cavel, and Richard Smith.

She is survived by her loving family and friends who will dearly miss her. They include Kenton L. Smith, Jerry Smith, Billie Marie DeKinder Hayes, JoAnn DeKinder, Wynona Cavel, Mary DeKinder Hampton, JoLyn DeKinder Clifton, Marion Wymer, and many other relatives and good friends.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Institute at IBMC Foundation, Attention Mary Wilson, 3300 NW Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK 73112, or to your favorite "pet charity" organization.

Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
