Friday, 6 March 2010Erma [Embry] Rhoades
Funeral service for Erma Rhoades, age 96, of Chickasha, Oklahomawill be held 10:30 am, Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Chickasha. Erma Rhoades was born February 14, 1914 in Mena, Arkansas. She was the daughter of John Jackson Embry and Minnie Lee Carden Embry. Mrs. Rhoades died Wednesday March 3, 2010 in Chickasha.
She and Edd Rhoades were married August 28, 1946 in Paragould, Arkansas.
Mrs. Rhoades graduated from Oklahoma A and M with a degree in Home Economics. She first worked for the US Department of Agriculture and later was Head Dietician at Oklahoma School for the Deaf in Sulphur.
She moved from McAlester to Chickasha in 1957. She was a Case Worker for DHS for 15 years before retiring in 1978.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was active in Children's Church.
She was a wonderful wife, devoted mother and a Christian. She was an example to her children and grandchildren on what it means to put love into action. She was generous, hospitable and kind. She had that special ability to make others feel like the most important person in her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Lynda Frost, and daughter-in-law, Patricia Rhoades, and one sister and two brothers.
Survivors include: Her husband Edd Rhoades of the home, 2 sons: Dr. Edd Rhoades and wife Marilyn of Edmond, John Rhoades and Gina Smith of Norman, six grandchildren: Taylor Rhoades, Darilyn Greenhow, Rebekah Rhoades, Caryn Clark, Evan C. Frost and Lauren Lin, 3 great grandchildren: Hannah Rhoades, Kaitlyn and Christopher Lin. Several nieces and nephews.
Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Chickasha underthe direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
