Calvin Henry Mitchell

çAlva - Calvin H. Mitchell, 80, died Wednesday in his home in Alva. He was born April 11, 1899, at Pella, Texas, and moved with his family to Chickasha while he was still a child. He attended grade school there.

In 1911, they moved near Gainesville, Texas, where he graduated from high school, then returned to Chickasha in 1922 work for the Chickasha Milling Company, working at both the mill and the elevator for 32 years.

Mitchell and his family moved to Alva in 1953. He worked for the W. B. Johnston Grain Company as elevator superintendent, remaining until his retirement January 1, 1966.

After retiring, he worked several years as custodian for the First Presbyterian Church.

Mitchell and Anna Lou Quisenberry were married November 23, 1926, in Chickasha. Mitchell was a member of the Frisco Avenue Methodist Church at Chickasha and a former member of the I00F Lodge there.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Lou; a son, John Allen; an infant sister and four brothers.

Survivors include his wife Anna Lou; a daughter Mary Sue [Mrs. Harvard] Litton, Alva; two sons, Calvin B. Mitchell, Ulysses, Kansas, and Roy Gene Mitchell, Medford; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth (Mrs. H. M.) Meyer and Ida Nelson, Long Beach, California.

Funeral services for Mitchell will be at 4 PM Sunday in the Wharton Funeral Chapel in Alva. The Rev. Haskell Beck, director of missions for the Salt Fork Baptist Association, will officiate. Graveside services will be at 2 PM Monday in the Rose Hill Cemetery, at Chickasha, with the Rev. Freeman Russell officiating.
