© The Chickasha Express-Star Chickasha, Oklahoma Friday, 24 April 2009 Funeral services for Opal Maggie Dorman Grove, 97, of Chickasha will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 24, 2009, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel. Opal Maggie Dorman Grove passed away April 21, 2009, at her home in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Opal was born August 10, 1911, in Beaver County, Oklahoma to John Arthur Dorman and Minnie Bell [Fincher] Dorman. Her parents came from Prairie Grove, Arkansas and settled on the present homestead in 1903. They lived in a dugout near Floris, Oklahoma until the present farm house was built. Opal's father passed away while driving the family Ford automobile from a grocery shopping trip. Opal and her mother were also in the automobile. Opal was 4 years of age at the time. Opal's mother remained on the homestead and continued to farm and raise her four children as a single parent. Opal married Francis Jacob Grove on July 25, 1936, at the Methodist Church in Liberal, Kansas. They resided on the farm with Minnie Dorman and continued to farm and acquire farming land. They also maintained a home in Liberal, Kansas until the death of Francis. Opal was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church and the Wedding Ring Sunday School Class. She was a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star at Turpin, Oklahoma, Chapter #257, now of Guymon, Oklahoma, and she served as president of the Brookridge Townhouse Association for several years. Opal loved to sew and work in her yard. Her main thrust was helping others and always having a good listening ear. Through the years she has helped many when others had given up on them. She and Francis came to Chickasha in 1978 to be near their daughter Shirley. After Francis' death, Opal built a townhouse where she resided until her death. Mrs. Grove was preceded in death by her husband, Francis J, Grove in 1978; her parents; three sisters: LaFaun Dorman, Leta B. Dorman Simmons and Lois Lucille Dorman Sharp; and one brother, William Hugh Dorman.She is survived by her daughter Shirley Ann Grove Hays and husband Robert J. Hays, of Chickasha, Oklahoma; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Stacey Ann Hays Hirsekorn, Abigale E. Hirsekorn and Maggie Beth Hirsekorn, of Edmond, Oklahoma; Stephanie Ann Hays McCall and husband Charles A. McCall III, Charles A. McCall V. (Chase), and Carson Hays McCall, of Atoka, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church P.O. Box 518 Chickasha, OK. 73023 or a charity of your choice. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home. |
