Funeral services for William L. Gilley, 79, of Chickasha, are pending with Ferguson Funeral Home.

Gilley was born on Feb. 9, 1923. He died on Sunday, March 31, 2002, in Chickasha.

William "Bill" Gilley


Funeral services for William "Bill" Gilley, 79, of Chickasha, will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel.

William L. Gilley was born February 9, 1923, the son of William Carl Gilley and Mabel Clay Gilley. He died Sunday March 31, 2002 in Chickasha.

Bill grew up in Chickasha, where he attended Chickasha Public Schools.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1941 and served during WW II and later served in Korea.

Bill married Alta P. Altag in Wichita Falls, Texas on June 5, 1952.

Bill made a career in the service and retired from the U.S. Army at Ft. Rucker, Alabama, on May 1, 1964.

He had lived in Orlando, Florida and after retirement had been employed in the automotive department at Sears, for ten years before returning to Chickasha in the mid 1970's.

Bill was a member of the Chickasha Elks Lodge and the First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother. His wife Alta also preceded him in death on March 27, 1999.

Survivors include one daughter, Darlene Woolridge, of Los Angeles, California; his mother Mabel Gilley, of Chickasha and two grandsons.

Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
