© The Chickasha Express-Star 30 April ~ 2 May 2009 Pierre 'Pete' Corveleyn Pierre "Pete" Corveleyn, a first generation American, of Littleton, Colorado, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2009. His parents and brothers, Frank and Christian, came to America from Holland. Pete was born July 9, 1921 in Garwood, New Jersey, the third son of Pierre and Clara Corveleyn. Pete was in the United States Navy during World War II from May 5, 1943 to March 4, 1946 as an Electronic Technician 1st Class. >Pete graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in Mechanical Design Engineering. Pete met Emma Jo Bone in 1946 while attending the University of Colorado, and they were married on June 11, 1951. He worked for Martin Marietta from May 1957 until he retired in August 1986. He designed many components for NASA flights, most notably the Space Six Sexton. Pete belonged to the Mars Club and the American Society of Tool Engineers. Pete and Em were charter members of South Suburban Christian Church, Littleton, Colorado, and they moved to Wind Crest Retirement Community in 2007. Pete had a multitude of hobbies and was always busy with projects. He loved spending time both in his workshop and in his garden, and loved walking his special friend, Cody. He saw learning as a lifelong endeavor and enjoyed learning new skills with woodworking, ceramics, stained glass and leatherwork. He enjoyed cooking wonderful meals, fishing and was always reading. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and the many wonderful cruises - especially to his beloved Holland. Pete is survived by his wife, Em Corveleyn; his cousin Marla Harrington and her children, Anna and John; his Goddaughter, Mattie Cassady; and many friends in Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas. Funeral services will be held at the South Suburban Christian Church, Littleton, CO, on Friday, May 1, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. A graveside memorial service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, Chickasha, Oklahoma, at a time to be announced.
