Mavis W. [Wooten] Miller Clark

Funeral service for Mavis W. Miller Clark, age 86, of Chickasha, Oklahoma is pending with the McRay Funeral Home.

Mavis was born the daughter of Heber L. Wooten and Ellen May Roberts Wooten on May 7, 1918, in Boswell, Oklahoma.

She died on February 13, 2005, in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Funeral service for Mavis W. Miller Clark, age 86, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 18, 2005, in the Epworth United Methodist Church. Rev. Kim Domnick will officiate and Rev. Don Horton will assist.

Mavis was born the daughter of Heber L. Wooten and Ellen May Roberts Wooten on May 7, 1918, in Boswell, Oklahoma. She died on February 14, 2005, in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.

Mavis W. [Wooten] Miller Clark

Funeral service for Mavis W. Miller Clark, age 86, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, willbe held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 18, 2005, in Epworth United Methodist Church. Rev. Kim Domnick will officiate and Rev. Don Horton will assist.

Mavis was born the daughter of Heber L. Wooten and Ellen May Roberts Wooten on May 7, 1918, in Boswell, Oklahoma. She died on February 14, 2005, in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Mavis came to Grady County in 1925, from eastern Oklahoma, with her parents. She lived in Grady County since that time. Mavis attended school at Amber and Fairview, graduating from Fairview in 1937. She attended Chickasha Business College under Mrs. Ollie Ireton.

On October 31, 1959, she married George P. Miller who preceded her in death in 1985. She married George H. Clark in April of 1993 who also preceded her in death in 1996. Mavis traveled with her husband, George Milller, to Ireland on the first friendship Force trip between Ireland and Oklahoma in 1979 as ambassador.

Mavis worked as secretary for agriculture affiliated businesses in Chickasha for forty-five years with twenty-six years for the USU Extension Service. She retired in 1983. Mavis was honored by the American Business Women's Association as Business Woman of the year in 1976. She was nominated by her boss of twenty-five years, Bob Lamar.

Mavis was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church since 1943. She was active in Evangelism Commission where she served as chairman for eight years and was secretary to the Administrative Board for many years. Mavis was charter member of the Grady County Historical Society in 1973. She served as president for eight years. Mavis helped in establishing a county museum, continuing the work that her husband, George Miller, had begun. Mavis developed many intimate and lasting friendships through church and historical sources. She was described as a "people person" in all activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, who died at age eighteen months.

Survivors include brother, Dale Wooten of Oklahoma City; brother, Billy G. Wooten of Blanchard, and several nieces and nephews.

Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
