© The Chickasha Express-Star 24 April 2005 Edith Mae [Bruner] Clark Graveside service for Edith Mae Bruner Clark, 105, of Chickasha, Oklahoma will be held at 4:00 p.m., Monday, April 25, 2005 at Rose Hill Cemetery. Edith Mae Bruner Clark was born March 1, 1900 in Garfield, Kentucky and died Friday, April 22, 2005 in Chickasha. She was the youngest of the five children of Euphame Carman and N. L. Bruner, who were ranchers. Edith moved with her father to southwest Oklahoma in 1907, bringing their possessions in a box car. They moved to a ranch southeast of Chickasha in 1911. She attended Friend school for eight years and entered nursing training in 1919 at Chickasha Hospital, where she remained employed until her marriage. Edith married James C. Clark on December 3, 1925 and became a housewife. As her husband was a driller in the oil fields of Oklahoma and Texas, they moved from place to place for the next 20 years. In 1945, the couple purchased a farm south of Chickasha, and settled in to raise beef cattle with a few dairy cows, hogs, and chickens. Edith loved working outside and always had a big garden. She canned a lot of food, and also helped with the field work and with milking the cows. Edith and James Clark had a regular delivery route in town, selling their milk and eggs. James passed away in 1989. Edith outlived her siblings, and recalls that the family buried her mother in Kentucky.
She had resided in the Chickasha Nursing Center since October 3, 2002. Edith was honored with a certificate from The Centenarian's Club of Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters, and one brother. Survivors include her two nephews, John Cornelius of Duncan, Oklahoma; and J. Paul Cornelius of Vian, Oklahoma.
Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. |
