© The Chickasha Express-Star 10 May 2004 Aaron Edward Churchill Funeral service for Aaron E. Churchill, 87, of Chickasha, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday May 11, 2004, in the Chapel of Sevier Funeral Home. Aaron E. Churchill was born December 31, 1916, in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. He was the son of M. A. and Lucy [Lovesay] Churchill, and died Saturday, May 8, 2004, in Chickasha. He had moved to Wilburton, Oklahoma, Oklahoma, at 5 years old. He and Minnie Bell Ekers were married January 4, 1941, in Checotah, Oklahoma. Mr. Churchill served in the Army Medical Corps in December of 1942. He went to the Island of Corsica in May of 1943 and was stationed in Italy on May 7, 1945. He was discharged at Ft. Chaffee, Arkansas, November 18, 1945, as a Master Sgt. He worked at Borden Army Hospital for 5 months and later worked at Chickasha Cotton Oil Co. for 6 years from 1946 to 1952. He then worked for APCO Oil Company until his retirement in 1973. He then worked for Pet, Inc. for 9 years. He retired again in 1982. He was a member of the First Christian Church since 1955. He had served in virtually every office of the church. Mr. Churchill was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star since 1948. He served as Worshipful Master in 1956, Worthy Patron in the Order of the Eastern Star in 1959, District Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Masonic Lodge of Oklahoma. He received his 50-year Masonic pin and 50-year Eastern Star pin in 1998. He was preceded in death by his parents and nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife Minnie Bell, of the home in Chickasha; one daughter, Martha Churchill, of Oklahoma City; one sister, Laverne Fleming, of Pryor, Oklahoma; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Emore and Joyce Isaacs; and a host of nieces and nephews. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Chickasha, Oklahoma, under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.. |

© The Chickasha Express-Star 14 ~ 16 April 2009 Minnie Belle [Ekers] Churchill Funeral service for Minnie Belle Churchill, 91, of Nichols Hills, Oklahoma, formerly of Chickasha, will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the First Christian Church, Chickasha, with Reverend Michael Oberlender officiating. Minnie Belle was born June 25, 1917, in Haileyville, OK to James L. and Belle Ekers. She died April 13, 2009, at her daughter's home in Nichols Hills, after a lengthy illness. She graduated from Durant High School in 1933 as salutatorian at the age of 16. Minnie Belle later attended Southeastern State College in Durant, OK, and was awarded a B.A. in Education in 1937. Minnie Belle later completed post-graduate work at Central State College in Edmond (now UCO) and the University of Oklahoma in Norman. After graduation from Southeastern, Minnie Belle taught Latin in Wilburton. She worked for Chickasha Cotton Oil Company during the war, and was chief business manager under Jeter Sneed of the O.C.W. bookstore and student bank. She also taught Latin and English in Chickasha for more than twenty-five years. While in Chickasha, she was chosen Leader of American Secondary Education in 1972, Teacher of the Year in 1974, received the Outstanding Performance to CHS award in 1990 and was inducted into the Chickasha Schools Hall of Fame in 2001. She married Aaron Edward Churchill in Checotah on January 4, 1941. They made their home in Chickasha, where he was financial advisor and accountant to APCO Oil Company, and where they raised their daughter Martha. Minnie Belle was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #29 since 1948 serving as Worthy Matron in 1959; and was a member of the First Christian Church, Chickasha for more than fifty years. She was very involved with her daughter's many activities. She was an accomplished seamstress, making and fitting clothing and costumes for Martha, as well as for her dance and other classmates. She was the sponsor for Junior Classical League (JCL) for many years, managing the student-run concession stands at CHS football and basketball games. Minnie Belle was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister, Eva Temple. She is survived by her daughter, Martha Churchill of Nichols Hills; her brother, William Elmore Isaacs of Broken Arrow; two nephews, William Alan Isaacs of El Cerrito, CA and Thomas Paul Isaacs of Owasso and children, Luke and Lauren Isaacs. Minnie Belle was an amazing woman of generous love for family and friends; possessive of a keen intellect, natural beauty and a sense of humor that she maintained throughout her life. She thought of others before herself and always had words of wisdom and encouragement for everyone; a truly lovely and gracious lady. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, also known at the The Heart Fund, 1 800-AHA-USA1. |
