© The Chickasha Express-Star 17 June 2005 Frieda Lorena [Tackett] Carothers A native Oklahoman and long-time resident of Chickasha, Frieda Lorena Tackett Carothers, died in Mesa, Arizona on June 13, 2005, at the age of 95. A memorial service will take place Wednesay, June 22, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the McRay Funeral Home located at 110 S. Eighth St. in Chickasha. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Frieda was the daughter of Bee and Ruth Tackett of Verden. Her maternal grandparents entered Oklahoma from Kansas for the land run of 1889. Frieda was born on a farm between Ft. Cobb and Oney on May 27, 1910. After attending the Verden Public School and Oklahoma College for Women, she began teaching at Pioneer School, near Norge, where she instructed students in Home Economics and met another teacher, Robert Ferrell Carothers, whom she married in 1935. During the 65 years of marriage, they lived in the communities of Apache, Lindsay and Verden. Her teaching career spanned 36 years. Frieda was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church in Chickasha, the Order of the Eastern Star, Oklahoma Retired Teachers Association, and had been a member of the Chickasha Dance Club in earlier years. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Twyla and Warren Angell of Black Mountain, North Carolina; daughter, Vicky Carpenter of Gilbert, Arizona; five grandchildren, Robert Boyer, Holly Hudgins, Twyla Boyer, Julie Clarke and April Bryant; and six great grandchildren, Zachary Soter, Caroline Carpenter, Abigail Bryant, Tyler Bryant, Peyton Clarke, and Grace Hudgins. Predeceasing Frieda Carothers was her brother, Lawrence Tackett in 1991 and her husband, Dr. Robert Carothers in 2000. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home. |
