© The Lawton Constitution 5 January 1988 Joe F. Kelsey DVM Graveside services for Dr. Joe F. Kelsey, DVM, 67, Elgin, will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Ridley Family Cemetery eight miles east of Sterling with Guy Ross, of Oklahoma Christian College, Oklahoma City, Bill Whaley, of Porter Hill Church of Christ, and Mike Banks, of Church of Christ, Sundown, Texas, officiating. Dr. Kelsey died Sunday at his home. Burial will be under direction of Huddleston's Funeral Home, Lawton. A memorial service is scheduled at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Elgin High School gymnasium. He was born Aug. 25, 1920, in McAllen, Texas. He was a 1937 graduate of Denison High School in Denison, Texas. He attended Texas A&M University and received a degree in animal husbandry in 1943. He was then commissioned a second lieutenant of the field artillery October 1943 and served during World War II. He returned to Texas A&M and in 1950 completed a doctorate in veterinary medicine. He remained active in the Army reserve, attained the rank of lieutenant colonel and retired in 1970. He married Dorothy Edmonson April 6, 1946, in Lawton. He practiced veterinary medicine in Comanche County for over 35 years. At the time of his death he was associated with Southwest Veterinary Clinic at Porter Hill. Prior to that he was associated with his brother, Dr. Charles Kelsey, in Lawton. He was an active member of the Porter Hill Church of Christ, and while in Lawton, he was a member of Sixth and Arlington Church of Christ. He was an elder in both churches for over 30 years. He was a member of the board of directors of Westview Boys Home, Hollis, for 25 years, and was a member of the board of Oklahoma Christian College for 20 years. He was an active outsdoorsman, a hunter and beekeeper. He was an honorary chapter farmer and an Oklahoma Honorary State Farmer of the Elgin Future Farmers of America. Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons: R. Joe, Rush Springs; and David, Lawton; two daughters: Hope Moseley, Corpus Christi, Texas; and Rachel Binkley, Yukon; his mother, Josie Kalina, Pawnee City, Neb.; two brothers: Verdun, Fort Worth, Texas; and Dr. Charles Kelsey, Lawton; and ten grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Westview Boys Home, Hollis.
