© The Chickasha Express~Star Chickasha, Oklahoma Wednesday, May 7, 1986 Mildred Lucille [Payne] Shipp May 31, 1911 ~ May 6, 1986 Funeral for Mildred Lucile [Payne] Shipp, 74, Pocasset, will be held at 10 am Friday, May 9, 1986, in the Pocasset United Methodist Church with Rev. Otto Elling, pastor, officiating. She was born May 31, 1911, southeast of Amber in Brusby Creek Community. She died Tuesday, May 6, 1986, in Grady Memorial Hospital, Chickasha. Mrs. Shipp taught first grade for 18 years before retiring in 1968. She was a member of Pocasset United Methodist Church, the Arcadia Extension Homemakers Club and the Art Guild of Chickasha. She was preceded in death by both parents, Logan and Roxie Gertrude Davis Payne. Survivors include her husband, Hansel Shipp, of the home; one son, Robert L. Stack Jr., of Walters; two daughters, Vaughn Cile Farmer of Marlow, and Tresa Nan Osborn of Guthrie; two sisters, Wilma Smith of Bay St. Louis, Miss., and Zola Woodward of Kerrville, Texas; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Interment will be in the Pocasset Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Binyon Funeral. |

Shipp was born on March 18, 1912. He died on Friday, December 19, 2003. Services are under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home. © The Chickasha Express~Star Chickasha, Oklahoma December 22, 2003 Hansel Shipp March 18, 1912 ~ December 19, 2003 Funeral service for Hansel Shipp, age 91, of Pocasset, Oklahoma, was held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, December 22, 2003, in the Pocasset United Methodist Church. Rev. David Vineyard officiated, and Rev. Steve Edwards assisted. Hansel Shipp was born the son of Emmett Shipp, Sr., and Mattie Florence NelmsShipp on March 18, 1912, in Dublin, Erath County, Texas. He died on Friday, December 19, 2003, in Pocasset, Oklahoma. Hansel came to Grady County in 1916, and moved to Pocasset in 1926. He served in the United States Army and went into the Army Infantry in 1934. Hansel served during World War II as an infantry platoon leader in Northern Pacific at Attu and Kiska Islands, Central Pacific, and Southwest Pacific in the Philippines and Okinawa. He was decorated five times for his service and beyond the call of duty with Purple Hearts, Oak Leaf Clusters, and Silver Star. After World War II, Hansel returned to Pocasset where he farmed and ranches. On February 11, 1952, he married Mildred Lucille Payne in Pocasset. After farming and ranching, he went into commercial construction work and was self-employed for fifteen years before his retirement in 1974. Hansel was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pocasset. He was also a member of the Pocasset Lions Club and the Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mildred Shipp, sister, Fannie Souders, and four brothers, Francis, Ted, Emmett, Jr., and Orin Shipp, and one stepson, Robert Stack. Survivors include: Daughter, Tresa Osborn of Chickasha; daughter, Von Cile Farmer of Harrah; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; four great, great grandchildren. Interment with military honors was in the Pocasset Cemetery. Services were under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home. |

Shipp, age 84 of Pocasset, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 2, 2007, in the Pocasset First Baptist Church. Rev. David Treadway will officiate. Lilas A. Shipp was born on July 13, 1922, in El Reno, Oklahoma, the daughter of George W. Vogel and Anna M. Weise Vogel. She passed away on March 29, 2007, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Lilas grew up on the family farm near Union City, Oklahoma, where she attended grade school. As she began Junior High School, she attended Pocasset Public Schools graduating from Pocasset High School in 1939. She attended Oklahoma College for Women now U.S.A.O. in Chickasha. Lilas married Emmett Shipp on November 4, 1941. Lilas enjoyed gardening, sewing, and cooking big family dinners. She was a member of the Pocasset First Baptist Church and was a longtime member of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Lorene Martha Vogel and Louella Georgia Massey, her husband, and an infant son. Survivors include: Daughter & Son-in-law: Georgianne & Johnny Overstreet of Oklahoma City; Daughter: Carolyn Harris of Oklahoma City;Brother & Sister-in-law: George & Betty Vogel of Claremore; Granddaughter & Husband: Tonya & Greg Lewis; Granddaughter & Husband: Stephanie & Tad Kite; Grandson: Chad Harris; Five Great-Grandchildren: Zachary Harris, Bailey & Stetson Kite, Hannah & Brooke Lewis; Many Nieces & Nephews. Interment will be in the Pocasset Cemetery. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home. |
Oklahoma August 2016 May 4, 1926 ~ August 12, 2016 Evelyn L. Shipp entered the gates of heaven to join her beloved husband, Orin A. Shipp and daughter, Deborah Correll, and grandson, Justus Landry on August 12, 2016. She graduated from Gotebo High School, and then attended the Okla. College for Women in Chickasha where she received her teaching certification. She met the great love of her life in the cockpit of an airplane at Tinker Air Force Base when he was a recently returned World War II veteran of the Army Air Corp's Fabulous 57th Fighter Group. They married December 30, 1946 and enjoyed 57 years of wedded bliss. She supported her husband's passion for creating the perfect black angus calves during their years of owning several acres in Pocasset, and later on in Bethel Acres, OK. She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a tremendous support to her husband as he served on the Board of the Masonic Charity Foundation. Their hard work brought him the honor of serving as Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Okla. His excellence in motivational speaking took them to the Grand Master’s Conference in Washington, D.C. as the featured speaker, and all across the country. They enjoyed traveling together and went from Europe, to as far north as Canada, and as far south as South America. They enjoyed spending their summers in the Masonic Park in the Rocky Mountains outside of South Fork, CO where they owned an original log cabin built in 1914. It is to this day a wonderful legacy with numerous family memories created within it. She was a very gifted artist and enjoyed china painting, and landscapes of oils on canvas that grace her families' homes. She was a great seamstress, and lovingly created both of her daughters' wedding gowns. Her greatest joy in life was her family, to which she provided unselfish support and unconditional love throughout her life. She leaves behind her loving daughter, Cynthia and husband Cary Kramer of Edmond, and Deborah’s husband Don Correll of Oklahoma City, OK. She adored her grandchildren; Chay Kramer and wife Natalie of Edmond, Jessica Watson and daughter Sage of Norman, Jerrisa Monks and husband Ray, sons Baron & Xane of Heath, Texas, and Justus’ children Riley, Elisha, & Gavrielle Landry. She also leaves several special nieces and nephews. She was born in Gotebo, OK to Daniel & Flora Merchant and was a doting big sister to Geneta who all are with her again in heaven. A celebration of her life will be held on 10:00 a.m. Tuesday August 16, 2016 at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Reverend Bertha Potts officiating. Viewing will be from Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Her burial will be next to her beloved husband at the Pocasset Cemetery. |
