Mother's passing in 2002 left him lonely, but he was thankful for the care and company his daughters gave in the home. Dad was a dairy farmer by trade. He also enjoyed gardening, planting fruit trees, and the fruit of his labors. Our parents' compassion caused them to open their home to those in need. Dad loved singing and taught us and others to sing, often helping with Bible School. Dad loved the Lord, and it showed in his appreciation for the Church and her leadership. He leaves us with an assurance of victory through God's grace. January 22, 2014 Glen Nightingale Minister Glen Nightingale was born to Alfred A. and Ida [Unruh] Nightingale on March 1, 1929, at Verden, Oklahoma. In the early morning hours of December 23, 2013, he peacefully departed this life at March Hospital, Moundridge, Kansas, reaching the age of eighty-four years. Dad grew up in a family of thirteen and often talked of many happy childhood times he shared with his brothers and sisters. He received his education at the Sandlin School near Verden, Oklahoma. At the age of fifteen, he accepted God's call to salvation and upon the confession of his faith, was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on December 17, 1944, by Min. Reuben Koehn. He remained faithful to his vows until his end. On October 8, 1950, Dad was joined in marriage to Roberta Nightingale by Roberta's uncle, Min. George Nichols, at Fairview, Oklahoma. Their home was blessed with one son and four daughters. For over sixty years, they shared life's joys and sorrows, making many memories. On December 18, 1956, Dad answered the call of the Lord and the church and was ordained to the gospel ministry at Chickasha, Oklahoma, by Min. Abe T. Koehn. The church was dear to his heart, and he labored faithfully as a shepherd to his congregation and in revival work. His love for the kingdom allowed him to accept the responsibility of serving on various church boards. Serving on the Gospel Tract board was a joy to him. Dad provided well for his family as a dairyman and farmer. Her enjoyed working the land and watching the crops grow. As his family, we have many happy memories of times spent working together on the farm. As our parents grew older and Mom's health declined, life brought changes that were not always easy. Dad submitted to the challenges and, with love and devotion, cared for Mom. In April, 2011, Dad and Mom moved to the Moundridge Manor, Moundridge, Kansas. On June 1, 2011, God called Mom home, leaving Dad lonely. Dad often expressed what a beautiful and wonderful wife he had. He quietly filled his place there, often with a hand on the shoulder and a few words of encouragement. On December 9, 2013, Dad suffered an aortic aneurysm and miraculously survived the surgery. Two weeks later his body grew tired, and God graciously carried him home. Our parents are on the other side, and we are looking forward to that glad day when we can join them. Cherishing fond memories are five children: Alfrieda Nightingale, Guthrie, Oklahoma; Wilma and Weldon Smith, Chickasha, Oklahoma; Calvin and Susan Nightingale, Chickasha, Oklahoma; Bernice and Verlon Schmidt, Rush Springs, Oklahoma; Letha and Cliff Unruh, Chickasha, Oklahoma; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; five brothers: Clarence and Erma Nightingale, Brooksville, Mississippi; Daniel and Sadie Nightingale, Chickasha, Oklahoma; Frank and Arvilla Nightingale, Verden, Oklahoma; John and Mary Ann Nightingale, Montezuma, Kansas; Homer and Carolyn Nightingale, Leland, Mississippi; one brother-in-law; Vernon Nightingale, Fairview, Oklahoma; six sisters-in-law: Eveline Nightingale, Chickasha, Oklahoma; Geneva Nightingale, Moundridge, Kansas; Sylvia and Marvin Schmidt, Dalhart, Texas; Margarita Nightingale, Fairview, Oklahoma; Lillian and Jonathan Schmidt, Thomas, Oklahoma; and Judine and Robert Nightingale, Barron, Wisconsin; and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Sepember 9,1977 Marcella [Koehn] Nightingale My dear wife, Marcella Koehn Nightingale, was born April 23, 1952, at Turlock, California to Min. Jesse and Elsie Koehn. She departed from this life to be with the Lord on September 9, 1977, at Grady Memorial Hospital, Chickasha, Oklahoma. She reached the age of 25 years, 4 months, and 17 days. She received her education and grew to womanhood at Atwater, California. While still a youth, she realized her need of a Saviour, and upon true repentance and confession of her faith, she was baptized and added to the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on March 19, 1967. She remained true unto the end. Her Christian life was a source of comfort and happiness to her. Prayer, Bible reading, and church attendance were very dear to her. Her life was a testimony of sincerity and faithfulness. Marcella was of a meek and humble spirit. Her sweet and loving disposition endeared her to whomever she met, making many friends wherever she went. On April 21, 1968, while in her parental home, her uncle and aunt, Kenney and Betty, were taken in a tragic auto accident. Kenney's six children were taken into their home. Marcella cheerfully accepted her share of the added responsibilities in caring for the family who were dear to her as her own brothers and sisters, being especially attached to little Terry who was handicapped in the accident. On September 15, 1974, she was united in marriage to me, Robert Nightingale, at Livingston, California. We made our home at Chickasha, Oklahoma. We were privileged to share the happiness of a married life for about three years. On September 2, 1977, we shared the happiness of the birth of our first child. Our happiness was complete, and it seemed life was just beginning. Little did we realize that in one week this happiness would be ended. She loved her child and home. Her passing leaves an aching void in my life. The many precious memories of our life will live on and be a comfort. Though our hearts are broken and we cannot understand why, we want to bow to the Lord and say, "Thy will be done. The Lord has given and the Lord has taken, blessed be the name of the Lord." She leaves to mourn her passing me, her deeply bereaved husband, an infant daughter, Patsy Le Ann; her parents, Jesse and Elsie Koehn; nine brothers: Dale and wife Ileen; Gaylord and wife Lana, of Atwater, California; Chester and wife Edith, Doug and wife Donna, Tim and wife Debbie, of Livingston, California; Lynn and wife Verda Mae, Galen and wife Marilda, of Verden, Oklahoma; Keith and Terry of the parental home; five sisters: Nadine and husband Frank Braun of Livingston, California; Becky and husband Lauren Unruh, Glenn, California; Ruth, Jan, and Brenda of the parental home; grandmother Bertha Koehn of Livingston, California, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held September 13, 1977, at the Plainview Church, with Ministers Glen Nightingale and John Nightingale in charge. Burial was in the church cemetery. |
