Mozelle [Armstrong] Sampson

Funeral services for Mozelle Sampson, 91, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, formerly of Chickasha, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 5, 2009, in the Epworth United Methodist Church.

Mozelle Sampson was born August 3, 1917, in Cement, Oklahoma, the daughter of Stanley and Mattie [Luton] Armstrong. She died April 29, 2009, at her home in Stillwater.

She grew up near Cement and Southwest of Chickasha. She attended and graduated from Pioneer Public Schools in 1935.

Mozelle married Blanchard Sampson on September 17, 1937. They were blessed with 5 children: Phil, Mary Anne, Gary, David, and Kent. They had 62 years together before he preceded her in death in 1999.

Mozelle and long time family friend, Al Sampson got reacquainted after the death of both of their spouse's. They were married on July 7, 2001, in Evergreen, Colorado. They have had 8 wonderful years together.

Her love and compassion for children inspired her to go to school and become a teacher. She attended Oklahoma College for Women (USAO) where she earned her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education in 1961. She then attended Oklahoma University, where she obtained her Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling Education in 1968. She did additional graduate studies at Oklahoma State University and the University of Arizona. She taught first grade for 10 years and Head Start for 3 years. She was the Follow Through Program Assistant for 9 years and was the director of the program for 3 years. She was also the assistant principal at Lincoln Elementary for 2 years before her retirement in 1982.

She was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church in Chickasha and Littleton United Methodist Church in Littleton, Colorado.

Mozelle was preceded in death by both parents; husband, Blanchard (Bub) Sampson; 2 brothers; and 2 sisters.

She leaves behind her husband, Al Sampson, of the home; four sons and daughters-in-law: Phil and Susan Sampson, of Lawton, Oklahoma, Gary and Paula Sampson and David Sampson, all of Chickasha, and Kent and Shelia Sampson, of Stillwater, Oklahoma; daughter and son-in-law: Mary Anne and John Lombard, of Nahant, Massachusetts; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and extended family.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the Dalton Sampson Fund c/o St. John Lutheran Church 102 SW 7th Street; Lawton, OK 73501.

Viewing for Mrs. Sampson will start on Sunday, May 3, 2009, after 1:00 p.m.

Interment will be in the Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
