Curtis McAdams, Jr.

Graveside funeral services will be held for Curtis McAdams, Jr., at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2013, in the Pioneer Cemetery with Kim Hayes officiating.

Curtis McAdams, Jr. was born in Binger, Oklahoma, on February 11, 1925, to Curtis W. McAdams, Sr. and Vernie Webb McAdams. He died on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, in Chickasha.

Curtis was raised in Cement and attended a small rural school in that area.

He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942 and served throughout World War II as a Gunner's Mate on the battleship USS Pennsylvania. After the war he left active service for some years before returning to the Navy Reserves. In 1981 he was called back to active service to serve in Beirut on the battleship USS New Jersey. He retired from the Navy in 1984.

On May 6, 1974, he married Edith Todd in McAlester, Oklahoma.

Curtis loved animals and raised chickens, dogs, and birds. It wasn't uncommon to find Curtis with a cockatiel on his shoulder keeping him company. He also enjoyed spending his time camping, gardening, and repairing Volkswagens.

He was preceded in death by: both parents and one son, Jim McAdams.

Survivors include: his wife, Edith McAdams of the home; three daughters, Suzan Knutson & husband Tom of Oklahoma City, Jan Pamplin & husband Tommy of Chickasha, and Dawna Dorough & husband Bruce of Chickasha; one son, Todd Hatchett & wife Loretta of Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
