Father Anice

Last Wednesday morning the Oak Hill community was startled by the report of the death of Father Anice.

His daughter, Mrs. W.L. Lowrance, with whom he was spending the winter, had prepared the morning meal, calling her father and getting no reply, went to his bedside, low there he lay with folded arms, peaceful in death. His spirit had flown to the Great beyond.

Mr. Anice came here from St. Louis where he had been employed as a ship carpenter. He was overcome with heat some years ago from which he never fully recovered. Finally resulting in heart trouble.

He had to abandon his occupation and came here to rest and hoped to regain his health. He was 76 years of age. His suffering was very severe while the hot weather lasted, but for some time seemed on the road to recover, by not so, death relieved him of his suffering.

Rev. J.W. Martin delivered a splendid funeral discourse after which the remains were laid to rest in the Phillips cemetery.

A large assembly of sorrowing neighbors and friends accompanied the bereaved family, Mr. and Mrs. Lowrance, and Mrs. Collier, the only 2 of the family to mourn the loss of an affectionate and loving family .
