John Wesley Hoover, Deputy U. S. Marshall
Indian & Oklahoma Territorial Peace Officer Dies John Wesley Hoover, who was 77 years and a veteran state peace officer, died Tuesday night at the home of his son, William J. Hoover, 2100 Classen Boulevard. Watts and McAtee funeral home is directing and will be sending his body to Ninnekah for a Sunday burial.
John came to Texas fromTennessee. He later came to Indian Territory via Texas in 1883.
His son noted that he was the first commission as deputy United States marshal in the territory.
John is also survived by son, James Owen Hoover, of Ninnekah, and brother, W. L. Hoover, of Palestine, Texas.
Note: The Hoovers came to America from Switzerland. Their original surname was Huber.
