© Chickasha Express~Star Chickasha, Oklahoma October 9, 1995 November 4, 1908 ~ October 8, 1995 Funeral for Oscar Ferrell, 86, Chickasha, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 10, 1995, in First Baptist Church of Ninnekah. Rev. Audie Dorrough, pastor, will be officiating. He was born November 4, 1908, in Bellbuckle, Tenn., the son of Henry and Lela [Brawley] Ferrell, and died, Sunday, October 8, 1995, in Chickasha. Mr. Ferrell came to Chickasha in 1919. He and Mary Lavada Howard were married December 22, 1929, in Chickasha. He had traveled widely in the United States and was a story teller, self taught historian and Bible scholar. Mr. Ferrell spent his early life as a farmer. He also worked as a carpenter and as a painter later in life. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, four sisters, twin daughters and a son. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lavada Ferrell of the home; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Eva and Charles Mitchusson of Bradley, Bernice Austin of El Reno, Sharon Craddock of Sapulpa, Linda and Roy Pursley of Amber, Montez and Carey Wilkerson of Chickasha; a twin brother, Arthur Ferrell of Oklahoma City; brothers, Joe Ferrell and Hensley Ferrell, both of Chickasha; one sister, Elizabeth Browning of Little Rock, Ark.; 19 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Interment will be in Ninnekah Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. |
© Chickasha Express~Star Chickasha, Oklahoma April 7 & 8, 2009 May 7, 1913 ~ April 5, 2009 Funeral service for Mary Lavada Ferrell, 95, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of Ninnekah. Mary Lavada Ferrell was born May 7, 1913 near Caney, Oklahoma the second child of William David Howard and Girthey Viola [Dallas] Howard. She passed from this life on April 5, 2009. In 1925, Lavada's family came by covered wagon from Wapanucka, OK to the Alex and Ninnekah area. On December 22, 1929, Lavada married Oscar Ferrell in Chickasha. Lavada and Oscar farmed in the Alex and Ninnekah area until the fall of 1950 when they sold out and moved to Chickasha. Lavada worked as a nurse's aide at Massey's Nursing Home and Shanoan Springs Residence before doing private duty nursing. In 1981 she retired from working in the lunch room of West Elementary School. Lavada was an avid gardener and seamstress. She loved to quilt and crochet as well as make clothes for herself and her children. During her later years, she made each of her 15 grandchildren a crocheted afghan as well as making them for her 5 daughters, many of her great-grandchildren and other friends and relatives. Lavada was a member of the First Baptist Church, Ninnekah, OK. Lavada was preceded in death by her parents; 5 brothers; 4 sisters; infant twin daughters; son, Roy Elton 'Sonnie Boy'; husband of nearly 66 years, Oscar; son-in-law, J.W. Austin; son-in-law, Claude Ruston; and great grandson, Jake Austin. She is surived by daughters: Eva Mitchusson and husband, Charles, of Bradley, OK; Bernice Austin of El Reno, OK; Sharon Craddock-Ruston, of Tulsa, OK; Linda Ferrell of Verden, OK; and Montez Wilkerson and husband, Carey, of Chickasha, OK; sisters: Bertha Smith of Paris, TX; June Winnard of Oklahoma City, OK; and Elsie Hinson of Chickasha, OK; brother, William Howard, of Oklahoma City, OK; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 10 step great grandchildren; 3 step great great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Interment will be in the Ninnekah Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. |
© Chickasha Express~Star Chickasha, Oklahoma December 27, 1959 June 26, 1935 ~ December 24, 1959 Funeral service for Roy Elton Ferrell was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 26, 1959, in the Chapel of Sevier's Chickasha Funeral Home. Ferrell died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Ferrell, 1822 Minnesota, on December 24, 1959. He was born June 26, 1935 in Ninnekah and was a resident of Ninnekah and Alex until 1950 when he moved to Chickasha. He had been an invalid the past two years. Emil Harrison, minister of the 16th and Florida Church of Christ officiated. Miss Hazel Odom, Miss Virginia Paddack, Mrs. Henry Paddack and Hershel Paddack provided the music. Survivors besides his parents are five sisters, Sharon, Linda Kay and Montez of the home; Mrs. Bernice Austin, El Reno, and Mrs. Eva Mitchusson, Bradley; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.D. Howard, Chickasha. Pallbearers were Bill Carter, Robert Huggins, Dickie Costlow, Jerry Craddock, Elton Ferrell and Elvin Ferrell. Burial was in Ninnekah Cemetery. |
© Chickasha Express~Star Chickasha, Oklahoma October 20, 1943 ~ October 21, 1943 October 20, 1943 ~ October 21, 1943 The twin daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Ferrell of Ninnekah, Route 2, died late Wednesday night, October 20, 1943, having lived only a few hours. In addition to their parents, survivors include sisters, Eva, Bernice and Sharon; brother, Roy Elton, all of the home; grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. W.D. Howard and Mr. & Mrs. Henry N. Ferrell; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. The funeral was conducted by the Chickasha Funeral Home at the Ninnekah Cemetery Thursday afternoon. |
