Ninnekah, Oklahoma July 2020 October 30, 1947 ~ July 5, 2020 Funeral services for Terry Atwell, age 72, of Ninnekah, Oklahoma will be at 10:30am, Wednesday July 8, 2020 at Ninnekah First Baptist Church. Pastor Kim Hayes will officiate. Terry passed away quietly at his home in Ninnekah, Oklahoma on July 5, 2020 with family at his side. Terry was born on October 30, 1947 in Weslaco, Texas to Euless Atwell and Marjorie McDonald Herring. He later moved to Coquille, Oregon with his family, then back to Oklahoma, settling in Duncan. Terry graduated from Duncan High School in 1965. After graduation he attended college in Lawton and worked for A & P Grocery. In August, 1967 Terry was drafted into the US Army and was sent to Fort Polk, Louisiana for Basic and AIT Training. After completion of his training, he was sent to Viet Nam on January 16, 1968 where he served until February 14, 1969. He returned to the US and was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia until his discharge in October, 1969. In Viet Nam he spent his time on the front lines as a combat infantryman. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his service, also the Merit of Honor badge and small bore rifle badge. After discharge and returning to Chickasha he went to work for Tinker Air Force Base, retiring in December 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Melvin Atwell, Leroy Atwell and Charles Atwell. Terry married Charlotta Dean Atwell on December 23, 1967 and from this union came two children, Jeffrey Michael and Tamara Kay. He is survived by his wife Charlotta Atwell of Ninnekah, Oklahoma; son Jeffrey of Hurst, Texas; daughter Tamara Atwell of Chickasha, Oklahoma; grandchildren Gabrielle Atwell and fiancé Dalton Shepard; Michael Atwell and fiancé Krystal Wood; Skyla Seyler and husband Johnny of Ninnekah; Kaysi Connolly and husband George of Yukon; Jacob Fisher of Chickasha; great-grandchildren Jett Seyler; Kayzlee Seyler; Rylan Seyler; Maddox and Julien Mejia with Rhett on his way in November. He is also survived by many other family, cousins and dear friends. Interment will be in the Ninnekah Cemetery. Services are under the direction of McRay Funeral Home. |
