Ollen Merrel Hunter
Ollen Hunter was born November 17, 1932, in Cement West Field to Kalvey and Lillie Hunter. He grew up in the Cement community and attended the Cement schools until his graduation in 1951. As many of the young men of this time, Ollen worked in the oil fields of Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming. He had said that A.D. Langford gave him his first job.
Ollen married Gayla Sue Holmes, daughter of Loyd and Ruby Holmes, on March 3, 1956, in Anadarko, Oklahoma.
They lived in Cement off and on for the next several years.
In 1959 Ollen went to work for Sinclair Oil Company (now ARCO) and moved to Fairfax, Oklahoma. They were there several years before being transferred to Longview, Texas, where they stayed until returning to this area in the early 1980s. Ollen retired from ARCO in 1984. Ollen loved old cars and worked on them growing up. He was an excellent mechanic.
Ollen and Sue have three children: two sons, Steve and David, who still live in Texas, and a daughter, Sharlet, of Cement. They also have five grandchildren: Brooke, Brandon, Jeffrey, Derek and Sarah.
Ollen and Sue loved to take their RV and travel the country, sometimes with various members of their families. They did this for many years until Ollen's health kept them at home. Ollen passed away March 11, 2000. Sue still lives in their home north of Cement.
