© Chickasha Daily Express Chickasha, Oklahoma Wednesday, February 11, 1931 August 29, 1862 February 11, 1931 FLU FATAL FOR CHICKASHA MAN Cornelius Sullivan Passes Early Today: Funeral to Be Held Friday Funeral Services for Cornelius Sullivan, age 68, who succumbed to influenza at the home of his son, W.P. Sullivan, Wednesday morning at 8:40 o'clock, will be conducted from the Holy Name Catholic Church Friday morning at 9 o'clock. Interment will occur in the Holy Name Cemetery. Mr. Sullivan was born in Pocahontas County, West Virginia sixty-eight years ago. He moved to Iowa when twenty years of age, later going to Plattsburg, MO, where he married Mary Courtney. Mr. Sullivan came to Chickasha 24 years ago and was engaged in farming and the mule business here. His wife died five years ago. Mr. Sullivan is survived by W.P. [William Patrick] Sullivan of Chickasha, Mrs. John Zurline [Mary Ellen "Babe" Sullivan] of Chickasha, T.J. [Thomas Joseph] Sullivan of Kansas City, MO., and John Sullivan, last heard from in British Honduras. All but the latter will be here for services Thursday morning. © Chickasha Daily Express Chickasha, Oklahoma Sunday, February 15, 1931 August 29, 1862 February 11, 1931 HOLD SULLIVAN SERVICES HERE Impressive are Last Rites for Cornelius Sullivan at Catholic Church Funeral Services for Cornelius Sullivan, age 68, who succumbed Wednesday morning at the home of his son, W.P. Sullivan, 927 Colorado Avenue, were conducted Friday morning from the Holy Name Catholic Church with Rev. Father Frank Van-Wees as celebrant of the funeral mass. During the offetory Mrs. George Hurley sang, "Ave Marie", accompanied by Mrs. Henry Ross. Rev. Father Blaise, Anadarko, was present in the sanctuary during the mass. Pallbearers were Joe Frey, M.A. Burtschi, Joe Ross, John McKenna, George Hoebing, and John Lynch. The Chickasha council, Knights of Columbus, attended the funeral services in a body. Surviving Mr. Sullivan are his 93-year-old mother, Mrs. Mary Sullivan, three sisters who live in Cabin Creek, West Virginia, and the following children: W.P. Sullivan, Mrs. John Zurline and John Sullivan of Chickasha and Tom Sullivan of Kansas City, MO. Those from out of the city, who attended the service, include past state deputies of the Knights of Columbus of Oklahoma, E.J. Delandy, Charles Daley and A.M. Oldham, Mr. & Mrs. John Wilkinson and Mr. and Mrs. Clem Busken, all of Oklahoma City; William Rooney, of Anadarko, grand knight of the council there; William Courtney of Plattsburg, MO, and other friends from Cement, Verden, Rush Springs, and Alex. |

Sullivan; Called by Death Saturday Afternoon; Lived in Chickasha since 1904. Funeral services for Mrs. Cornelius Sullivan, maiden: Mary A. Courtney, age 64, who died at her home Saturday afternoon after an extended illness, were held this morning at 9 o'clock at teh Holy Name Catholic Church. Rev. Frank Van Wees was in charge of the sevices and interment occurred at the Holy Name [Rose Hill] Cemetery. The pallbearers were John Shuckrow, John Lynch, Clarence Laflin, Joe Frey, Ed Bitschi and Dr. Edward Carr. The deceased is survived by her husband Cornelius Sullivan; three sons, Thomas Sullivan of Kansas City, John Sullivan of Tulsa and William Sullivan of this city; one daughter, Mrs. John Zurline [Mary Ellen "Babe" Sullivan] of Tabler, and a brother William Courtney of Plattsburg, Missouri, all of whom attended the funeral. Mrs. Sullivan was born at Leavenworth, Kanas, August 20, 1862, where she spent her childhood. Later she moved to Plattsburg, MO, where she became the wife of Cornelius Sullivan and they moved to Chickasha in 1904. |
© Chickasha Daily Express Chickasha, Oklahoma Friday, March 4, 1938 September 7, 1884 ~ March 3, 1938 W.P. Sullivan Dies at Age 53, Requiem Mass to be held at 9 A.M. Saturday. William Patrick Sullivan, age 53, insurance and auto finance dealer, died at 2:45 o'clock Thursday afternoon at his home, 927 Colorado Avenue. He had been in poor health for some time and for more than a week his condition had been critical. Requiem mass will be in the Holy Name Catholic Church at 9 a.m. Saturday and interment will be in te Holy Name Cemetery [Rose Hill]. Mr. Sullivan was born in Plattsburg, Missouri. He came to Oklahoma in October of 1906. He was active in the program of the Knights of Columbus and formerly served as the state deputy of the organization. Mr. Sullivan also was interested in the Boy Scout movement and had served as Catholic representative on the executive board of the Black Beaver Council for several years. Surviving members of the family include has widow, Mrs. Mary Sullivan, and four children, Willam Sullivan, Jr., Mrs. Clem Heidlage [Frances Sullivan] and Miss Helen Sullivan, all of this city and Miss Rebecca Sullivan of Maple Mount, KY; a sister, Mrs. John Zurline [Mary Ellen "Babe" Sullivan] of Chickasha; two brothers Tom Sullivan of Kansas City and John Sullivan of Mount Holly, Arkansas, and two grandchildren, Charlotte Sullivan and Robert Heidlage. Active pallbearers for the service will be J.P. McKenna, Joe Frey, John Lynch, Dr. G.R. Gerard, George Hoebing and Joe Ross. Honorary pallbearers will be the fourth degree Knights of Columbus of Oklahoma City. |

Sullivan, 91, 927 Colorado will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Holy Name Catholic Church. Rosary will be at 8 o'clock tonight in the chapel of Sevier Funeral Home. Mrs. Sullivan was born August 6, 1885, at Perrin, MO. She died Sunday in the local nursing home. Shewas married to William Sullivan on November 11, 1908 in Plattsburg, MO. They moved to the Chickasha area in 1908. Mrs. Sullivan was self-employed for over 35 years to the insurance business, retiring in 1959. She was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America and the Catholic Women's Activity Club. Mrs. Sullivan was preceded in death by her husband, William, on March 3, 1938, and one infant son, James Robert. Survivors include, one son, Bill Sullivan, and three daughters, Mrs. Clem Heidlage [Frances Sullivan], Mrs. Fred Hallock [Mary Rebecca "Becky" Sullivan], Mrs. J.S. Powers [Helen Sullivan], all of Chickasha; one sister, Miss Susan Downey of Plattsburg, MO; 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Interment will be in the Holy Name section of the Rose Hill Cemetery. |
© The Chickasha Daily Express Chickasha, Oklahoma June 6, 2004 Frances Charlotte [Burtschi] Sullivan March 23, 1912 ~ June 4, 2004 Funeral service for Frances Burtschi Sullivan, of Chickasha, will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, June 7, 2004, at Holy Name Catholic Church. Rosary will be held Sunday, June 6, 2004, at the Sevier Funeral Home Chapel at 7:00 p.m. Frances was born March 23, 1912, in Decatur, Illinois, the daughter of Martin A. Burtschi and Emma Kastner Burtschi, and died June 4, 2004, in Chickasha. When just nine months old, Frances and her family moved to a farm in Lindsay, Oklahoma. Later they moved to Chickasha, to farm at the west edge of Chickasha, the present site of the Chickasha Senior High School. At the age of 12 years, the family moved within the city limits of Chickasha. Her father and mother owned and operated the New Chickasha Hotel Coffee Shop for many years. Frances attended St. Joseph's Academy, where she graduated from high school with many honors. Subsequently she attended OCW-OCLA for two years. While there she was a member of De Ganna Ve Social Club. She worked for Chickasha Cotton Oil Company until her marriage to William "Bill" Sullivan, June 12, 1934. They had two daughters and three sons. Frances was a life-time member of the Catholic Church. She served as past President of St. Joseph's Academy P.T.A., the Ladies' Activity, and the National Council of Catholic Women, Lawton Deanery. She was secretary of Holy Name Cemetery Association for 35 years and was a lector for the church for many years. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, three sisters, and her husband Bill, two daughters, Charlotte Brown and Kathleen Mrasek, and a son, Thomas J. Sullivan. She is survived by her sons, William P. Sullivan and his wife Billie Dell, of San Jose, CA, and John F. Sullivan and his wife Juanita, of Cincinnati, OH; and her sons-in-law Don W. Brown, of Chickasha, and Vincent Mrasek and his wife, Judy, of Claremore. She has 18 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Holy Name Section, under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. |
