Mrs T. McGraw Passes Away At Pocasset

Friends of Mrs T. McGraw of Pocasset were shocked to hear of her death at her home December 4.

Mrs McGraw was born in Grandmond, Clinton county, Iowa, April 14, 1866.

When she was 13 years of age her parents moved to Minnesota and she made her home there with them until her marriage, September 3rd, 1888, at Forrest City, Minnesota. Her maiden name was Maggie Campbell.

Four years after her marriage she moved to Nebraska and 12 years later came to Oklahoma where she lived until her death.

She was the mother of eight children, seven boys and one girl. The youngest boy died at six months of age but the other children are all living.

Three sons, her daughter and husband were all at her bedside when she passed away. The other two sons are in France. Raymond and John are in hospitals recovering from wounds received in action, Roy is in the blacksmith department of one of the divisions.

Mrs McGraw was a good wife and Christian mother and her loss is one that can not be filled.

Grady county friends extend their sympathy to her husband and family and especially to the three sons who will return from across the water to find their mother's place empty.

Mother Is Dead Soldier Learns On Return Here

Private John McGraw of Pocasset, has returned from overseas, where he served several months with the American expeditionary forces.

Private McGraw landed in France in July 1918, and spent several days in the front line trenches, during which time he was gassed at St Mihiel.

He landed in the United States on New Year's day and was sent to Fort Riley, Kansas where he remained several days on account of his physical condition.

"During four days of my service in the front line", Private McGraw said, "our rations consisted of three slices of bread. A Hoover meal would have been highly appreciated had it been available. At other times, we were given plenty of nourishing food."

Although the war is over and Private McGraw has been mustered out of the service, it was a sad homecoming. His mother died December 3. Two brothers who are now in France, have not been advised of thier mother's death.

The returned soldier is a brother of Tom McGraw, a fireman with the city fire department.
