© The Chickasha Daily Express Chickasha, Oklahoma August 18 ~ 21 1919 June 19, 1902 ~ August 17, 1919 CORONER'S JURY IN VERDICT SAYS MISS BROCK WAS MURDERED What thus far has proved to be Grady County's most baffling mystery has resulted from the inquest held yesterday afternoon at the Brock home near Dutton over the body of Miss Arline Brock, 18-year-old girl who was found dead on her bed Sunday afternoon. The theory is that Miss Brock returned from the Bell home, a neighbor, on Sunday, August 17, 1919, went to the kitchen to slice tomatoes and while engaged at this work, heard a noise in her room; that she left her task, carrying the knife, went to investigate and in her room found a burglar, who, seeing her with the knife in her hand, thought she meant to attack him. Matt Sankey, sheriff of Grady County and brother-in-law of the girl requested the inquest and stated this morning that every effort will be made to unearth every fact in connection with the tragedy. Miss Brock was born June 19, 1902. She was preceded in death by her father, E. S. Brock. She is survived by her mother, Mary A. Brock of the home; a brother, George Brock of the home; two sisters--Mrs. Matt [Ethel Lenora] Sankey of Chickasha, Oklahoma and Mrs. Carl Hornberger of Council Bluff, Iowa. |
