Harlus James Thompson
March 15, 1925 ~ September 9, 2020


Harlus James Thompson, 95, of Newcastle Oklahoma passed away peacefully after a brief illness on September 9, 2020.

He was one of five children born to A.J. “Doc” Thompson and Della Mae [Perkins] Thompson on March 15, 1925 in Pocasset Oklahoma. He grew up in Bridge Creek Oklahoma on a farm and attended Bridge Creek Schools.

He married the love of his life Shirley Marie Franklin on August 31, 1951 in Tuttle, Oklahoma. To this union was born two sons, Gary James and Jeffrie Alan.

Harlus and Shirley made their home in Newcastle, Oklahoma in 1959. He worked at Wilson’s Food as a shipping clerk until retirement in 1981.

He loved to do wood working, building cabinets and doing remolding projects. In his later years he enjoyed making trinkets such as motorcycles, cars and trucks, and guitars out of wood.

Harlus enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid gardener, sharing his garden with family and friends. When the boys and later his grandchildren were growing up, he and Shirley enjoyed spending time with them at the lake.

He was a faithful Christian and an active member of Snow Hill Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife Shirley, son J. Alan, parents “Doc” and Della Mae Thompson, three brothers Milas, Ira and Thurman Thompson.

He is survived by his son Gary and wife Carol of Newcastle, four grandchildren, Chris Thompson and Brent Thompson of Newcastle, Sara Thompson of Norman and Chase and wife Tayler Thompson of Bridge Creek, four great grandchildren, Callie, Landyn, Barrin and Jaxon. One sister, Evelyn Franklin of Kansas. Also many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will meet for a Private Graveside Service.

Shirley Marie [Franklin] Thompson
January 29, 1933 ~ July 24, 2016


Shirley Marie Thompson age 83, of Newcastle, OK passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on Sunday, July 24, 2016.

Shirley was one of eight children. She was born on January 29, 1933 in Dixon, Oklahoma. Her parents were Roy H. Franklin and Ester [Kern] Franklin.

Shirley attended Tuttle High School and graduated with the class of 1951. Three months later she married the love of her life, Harlus James Thompson on August 31, 1951 in Tuttle.

Shirley and Harlus made their home in Newcastle in 1959 where she worked as a homemaker and raised their two sons, Gary James and Jeffrie Alan.

Shirley was a faithful Christian and was an active member of Snow Hill Baptist Church for over 50 years.

Shirley enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid gardener most of her life. When her boys and later her grandchildren were growing up, she and Harlus enjoyed spending time with them at the lake. She liked staying busy and also enjoyed crocheting, china painting, glass etching, cooking and canning. Most of all Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family, playing canasta, and winning!

She was preceded in death by: Parents, Roy and Ester; Two brothers, Rex and Don Franklin; Two sisters, Esther Henry and Mary Looney.

She is survived by: Husband, Harlus of the home in Newcastle, Two sons, Gary and Carol of Newcastle, Alan and Karen of Cole; Five grandchildren, Chris, Brent and Sara Thompson all of Newcastle, Chase Thompson and wife Tayler of Bridgecreek, Nicole Williams and husband Jesse of Norman; Five great grandchildren, Callie and Landyn Thompson, Hannah, Milley and Gavin Williams. Two brothers, Lee Franklin and wife Janet of Kingston, OK David Franklin and wife LeAnne of Stratford, OK One sister, Letha Page of Blanchard, Also many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will have a visitation on Tues, July 26, 2016 from 6-8pm at Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Newcastle. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Snow Hill Baptist Church, east of Tuttle, OK. Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Tuttle.
