Karen [Gilmore] Stonebraker
September 11, 1941 ~ October 26, 2018

Karen Gilmore Watson Stonebraker was born on Sept 11, 1941 in Tyro, Kansas to Geraldine and Cecil Gilmore. She was the middle child and the only girl. But that didn’t slow her down. She was quite spirited. She was a tiny girl with a big personality. One time she took a kids shoes and threw them on the roof of the school as a child because he wore what she thought were girls jeans. She had a lot of boy cousins and she could hold her own. She lived in the southeast area of Kansas.

Her family then moved to Illinois which is where she graduated High School. It was there that she met and married Carroll Vernon Watson. They were married on June 13, 1959 the week after she graduated from High school. They had 3 children. Dennis Michael, Sherry Lynn and Leah Anne.

In about 1969 after the kids played on the snow drifts at the eaves of the house and a decision was made to move south. She originally being from Kansas and Vern being from NE Arkansas they decided to move to a warmer climate. They went to Houston and it was really humid so they started back and when they stopped for gas in Oklahoma City the weather was nice they decided this was it. He found a job and they found a house to rent.

A short time later they moved the entire family to Oklahoma. There she worked for a window manufacturer and later she was the secretary for an insurance agency. Eventually becoming their CSR. When those gentlemen retired she decided to retire as well. But when her son in law got into the insurance business she became Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s first CSR. It was there she retired for her final time in 2011

Her and Vern remained married till his death in 2003. After Vern’s death she become reacquainted with an old friend Eugene "Stoney" Stonebraker. He had recently lost his wife and they married soon after. They were married for about 10 years when he became ill and passed in 2016.

She remained spirited throughout her life and it had been said that if she got mad at you that you should go stand in the doorway because that was the safest place, because she might be bringing the house down. She was a gracious and loving mother that ignored the faults in her children. Historically she would give you her very last penny if you had a sad story to share with her. She adored her grandchildren greatly and even let several of them live with her at different times in their lives.
