Barbara Lee [Sissom] Scott
November 1, 1948 ~ April 4, 2008

Barbara Scott [Sissom], 69, of Tuttle passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children, in the early morning of Wednesday, April 4, 2018 in Oklahoma City.

Viewing will be Friday night from 6-8 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Newcastle; services, by officiant Danny Cabaniss, will be at Snowhill Baptist Church in Tuttle at 10:00 Saturday, April 7.

Barbara loved music, dancing, singing, and laughing, and she brought joy to everyone she knew. Everyone who encountered Barbara left thinking they had a future in comedy. Alas, she laughed at everything--mainly herself.

She never left the house with everything she needed, was in constant search of her keys, and could never remember where she parked. But her mantra, "you might as well laugh," seemed to get her through most of life's frustrations. She could even laugh about Alzheimer's at times, and she certainly kept the staff and her visitors laughing once she entered memory care.

Barbara was born on November 1, 1948 in Anadarko, OK. She graduated from Western Heights High School on May 27, 1966, and she married Vernice the next day. Barbara and Vernice raised three children for whom they instilled work ethic, they emphasized importance of education, and they demonstrated empathy.

Barbara was progressive. She grew up during segregation, but did not understand its purpose. She weeped for children whose parents could not accept them. Her greatest wish was a peaceful life for each of her kids.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Vernice, her parents, Leroy and Adell Sissom, her father-in-law, Roy, mother-in-law, Wanda, 4 brothers-in-law, as well as her grandparents.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Melissa and Logan HInch, her son and daughter-in-law, Corey and Julie Scott, daughter and son-in-law, Kristyl and David Grizzle, Israel Barron, sister-in-law, Linda Clement, and Aunt Frankie, who was her greatest hero. She leaves her six cackling sisters and bonus mothers for her children, Linda Testerman (Roy), Dianne Jenkins [Lonnie], Gale Cannon, Carolyn Housley, Terri Webb, and Debi Thomas (Bob). Barbara had 18 nieces and nephews, but was called Aunt by perhaps twice as many. She was thought of as "Mom" by enumerable friends and family.

Her grandchildren Sumner and Aubrey Hinch, Samuel Scott, and Price, Annmarie, Liam, Ethan, and Colin Barron will forever remain the reason for her smile. And they will always, always eat their ice cream in her memory.

Visitation will be Friday from 6-8p.m., at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel, Newcastle OK.

Funeral Service will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Snow Hill Baptist Church, Tuttle, OK. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Tuttle, OK. Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home, Newcastle, OK.
