Freddie Gene Rex
July 21, 1931 ~ February 6, 2010


Freddie Gene Rex, age 78, of Purcell, passed away Friday, February 5, 2010 at the Norman Veterans Center.

He was born on July 21, 1931, in Portales, N. M. He was the second of seven children born to Fred Rex and Charity Louisa [Passmore] Rex.

Fred grew up in the Putnam City area where he graduated from high school in 1949. After graduating, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy, where he spent 22 years, rising to the rank of Data Processing Senoir Chief.

Over the years, he lived in San Diego, Calif., Great Lakes, Ill., Boston, Massl, Norman, Okla., Guan, M. I., Philadelphia, Penn. and Bainbridge, Md.

Upon his retirement, the family moved to Oklahoma where he became a computer programmer and analyst for the Oklahoma State Department of Human Services. He retired a second time from the state in 1989, to his residence in Purcell.

While stationed at Great Lakes Naval Training Station, he met and married the love of his life, Joyce A. Schnell. They were married on Jan. 1, 1953 in Kenosha, Wisc. Together, Fred and Joyce raised three children. Bill was born in Illinois, Andy and Karen were born on the island of Guam, Marianas Island. Throughout his life, he enjoyed woodworking, leather work and gardening. On special occasions he enjoyed family get togethers. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Louise Rex, sisters Billie Lock, Pat Morgan and Wanda Montgomery and brother Al Rez.

He is survived by his wife Joyce Rex of the home in Purcell, sons Bill Rex and wife Jan of Dallas, Texas and Andy Rex and wife Mary of Purcell, daughter Karen Clauson and husband David of Houston, Texas, brothers Claude Rex and wife Brenda of Oklahoma City and Jerry Rex and Regina also of Oklahoma City, 10 grandchildren, Stephanie Gannaway and husband David, Kevin Rex and wife Molly, Michael Rex, Michael, Mason and Caitlin McMillion, Randi and Rebecca Rex, Kyle and Lindsey Clauson and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010 at Wilson~Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery in Tuttle with Rev. Travis Southern officiating. Pallbearers were Kyle and David Clauson, Michael, Kevin, Andy and Bill Rex.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 3000 United Founders Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK, 73112.

Joyce Alice [Schnell] Rex

Joyce Alice Rex age 81 of Purcell, passed away Friday, January 10, 2014 at Purcell Municipal Hospital. She was born May 22, 1932 in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

She was the oldest of three daughters born to Elmer William Schnell and Evelyn Myrtle [Schwartz] Schnell.

Joyce grew up in the town of Kenosha where she attended the Friedens Lutheran School until the 8th grade and graduating from Mary D. Bradford High School in 1950. She later attended the University of Wisconsin.

Joyce was working as a Civil Service employee at U.S. Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois when she met Freddie G. Rex who was in the USN. Freddie was an Oklahoma City boy stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Base. They were later married on January 1, 1953 at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Being the wife of a military man they lived in Great Lakes, IL, Boston, MA, Norman, OK, Guam, M.I., San Diego, CA, Philadelphia, PA and Bainbridge, MD. Their three children were born in Guam and Illinois.

After Freddie retired from the military they moved to Purcell in 1982. Upon arriving in Purcell she volunteered at the Purcell Public Library before going to the McClain Co. Historical Society. Joyce became one of the most knowledgeable historians that Purcell has ever had. Resulting in three books published about the history of McClain County. Joyce was named an honorary life member of the McClain Co. Historical Society and had been a supporter of the McClain Co. Museum, serving as Curator, Genealogist and Treasurer for many years. She has edited, researched, abstracted and published many volumes of McClain County history and county records, including cemetery records.

Her life as a military wife included volunteer services in the Navy Wives Clubs of America and the Navy Relief Society as well as PTA's of San Diego, CA, Bainbridge, MD and Midwest City, OK. She also served as a Red Cross Volunteer at TAFB Hospital and at the Oklahoma Historical Society Library before moving to Purcell.

She was preceded in death by: Parents: Elmer and Evelyn Schnell, Husband: Freddie Rex on Feb. 5, 2010.

She is survived by: Three children: Bill Rex and wife Jan of Dallas, TX, Karen Clauson and husband David of Houston, TX, Andy Rex and wife Mary of Purcell, 10 grandchildren, 1 great grandchildren, Two sisters: Joanne Dotson of Jacksonville, FL, Carole Hermann of Warren, Ohio, Also several cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral service will be10:00 A.M. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell. Interment will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at Fairview Cemetery in Tuttle, OK. Memorial may be made to the McClain Co. Historical Society.

Claude Ray Rex, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at the age of 78 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was born March 10, 1942 in Oklahoma City to Fred and Louise [Passmore] Rex.

Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Tuttle, OK under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home, Tuttle, OK.

Brenda Fae [Ewing] Rex

Brenda Fae Rex, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at the age of 77 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was born July 1, 1943 in Oklahoma City to Ruth [Hager] and Neill Ewing.

Brenda grew up in Oklahoma City, attending Carey Elementary School, Jackson Junior High and graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1961. She was a majorette and on the synchronized swimming team.

She also attended vo-tech classes where she learned the trade of upholstery which led to her first career as an aircraft upholsterer for AeroCommander in Oklahoma City.

Brenda married her high school sweetheart, Claude Rex in Oklahoma City on August 15, 1960 and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2020.

Brenda was a homemaker and mother to five children.

She led brownie scout troops and homeroom activities as well as sewed numerous choir, band, and drama costumes for her own children, plus other kids in the neighborhood.

She was an avid bowler and enjoyed spending time with her two best friends, Billie and Teri.

She worked for Dillard’s Department Store as a Bridal Consultant in the Mid-80s, and started a wedding catering and cake decorating business. In the 90’s she became a Home Interior Design Consultant and started her second small business with a retail drapery and home finishing store in South Oklahoma City.

She was also a talented artist, working in oils on canvas.

Brenda was active in the Oklahoma City Fire Department and the statewide Oklahoma Firefighter’s Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as a past president and won Woman of the year in 1993.

She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi women’s sorority.

Brenda is preceded in death by her husband, Claude Rex who passed from this earth just two months ago, her daughter, Kellie Jean [Rex] Sawyers; her sister, Barbara Ann Ewing Hall; her parents, Ruth [Hager] Ewing, Neil Ewing, and her beloved stepfather, Herbert Ewing.

Brenda is survived by her children; Linda Rex Knight and husband, Greg, of Rockwall, TX; Leslie Rex Stockel and husband, Chip, of Edmond, OK; Kathy Rex Pendergraft and husband, Jim, of Moore, OK; and Richard Rex and wife, Marcy, of Newcastle, OK; and son-in-law, Larry Sawyers of Tuttle, OK.

She was blessed with 15 grandchildren: Lauren Williamson Jerome and her husband, Clint Jerome of Denton, Texas; Randie Bass and her husband Casey of Tuttle, OK; Jack Williamson of Denton, TX; Riley Thompson and her husband Kyle, of Moore, OK; Courtney Brown and her husband Charles, of Fort Irwin, CA; Syler Rex and Richard Alex Rex, both of Mustang, OK; Jeff Stockel and Jeremy Stockel, both of Edmond, OK; Laney Rex, Cade Stiger, and Carter Rex, all of Newcastle, OK; Brittany Pendergraft of Oklahoma City; Carmen and Robbie Sawyers, of Oklahoma City; and two great grandchildren Alexander and Asher Schweitzer, of Yukon.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 5, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Newcastle, Oklahoma. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Tuttle, OK under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home, Tuttle, OK. Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 4th, 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Sevier Funeral Home, 105 W Main St, Tuttle, OK 73089.
