October 26, 1918 ~ May 11, 2017

Lorene Mae Collins age 98 of Tuttle passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017. Lorene was born October 26, 1918 in Throckmorton, Texas. She was the middle child of three children born to George W. Messenger and Sarah Elizabeth "Sadie" Townsend.

Lorene grew up in the country near Bellview and Clovis, NM and was a country girl at heart. She attended school in Bellview where she graduated in 1936 as class Valedictorian. She was one of just a few women ever offered a full scholarship to a university at that time.

One month after graduating she married William "Bill" Paul Collins on June 20, 1936 in Clovis, NM. Together they raised three sons, Jerry, Jack and Wayne.

Lorene worked hard as a farmer's wife, helping Bill on the farm. They lived near Clovis, NM until 1956. At that time they moved to a farm near Tuttle, OK where they ran a dairy until 1970.

After Bill's death, she went to work in an upholstery shop and continued to raise cattle until she suffered a small stroke at the age of 92. She was truly a woman who knew how to work and never complained about hurting or being tired. Lorene loved being a wife, mother and grandmother and the matriarch of her family. She was a wonderful cook and throughout her life enjoyed get-togethers with family and friends. She added-on and made renovations to her home as her family grew so they would all fit into her living room because being together was important to her.

After Bill retired they enjoyed going to Branson and traveling back and forth to Clovis to visit friends. During the last few years of her life, she enjoyed reading and also working Sudoku and word search puzzles.

Lorene was a faithful Christian and a member of the Tuttle church of Christ for over 60 years. She loved her Lord and her church family. She was always looking for ways to serve the Lord and help others.
