© The Tuttle Times Tuttle, Oklahoma July 21, 1999 August 28, 1909 ~ May 6, 1999 Graveside service for Turner Cochran Jr, 89, was held at 10:30am, 5/13/1999, in Fairview cemetery in Tuttle, officiated by Derrick Bohn, pastor, and Kenneth Bomgardner, elder, of Tuttle Christian church. Turner Cochran Jr was born three-fourths Caddo-Chickasaw-Cherokee Native American Indian on 8/28/1909, in Tuttle. He attended a one-room country school in Silver City through the fifth grade, and graduated from Tuttle High school in 1926, in a graduating class of 12 students. He graduated from Haskell Institute in Lawrence in May 1929 and from the Kansas City School of Law in 1934. Turner was a long-time member of the First Christian church of Bonner Springs, where he served as Board Chairman, Elder, Elder-emeritus, & Sunday school teacher of the Kum-Join-Us class. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was formerly deputy director of the Immigration & Nationalization Service, retiring in 1963. Turner was a former Trustee & Board Member of Haskell Indian Institute and was a founder & honorary inductee of the American Indian Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Masonic Lodge, and the Scottish Rite. In addition, Turner was past president of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and a co-founder and member of the Kaw Valley Riders Association. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nora A. Cochran, in 1996 and by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Cochran in 1982. Survivors include 9 daughters, Mary Jo Watwood of Lakewood, CO, Dede Harris of Mesquite, TX, Peggy White & Patricia Lifke of Albuquerque, NM, Rita Baumgartner of San Bernadino, CA, Sandra Smith of West Covina, CA, Kitty Esquivel of Pomona, CA, and Sally Ray & Bonnie Denning, both of Shawnee, 1 brother, Jesse Earl Cochran of Tuttle, 1 sister, Chincie Ross of Tuttle, 18 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Interment was in Fairview cemetery in Tuttle. |
© The Tuttle Times Tuttle, Oklahoma May 28, 1997 December 19, 1909 ~ May 26, 1997 Funeral service for Annie [Ronnie] Cochran, 87, of Tuttle, were held Wednesday, May 28, in the Sowers Memorial chapel of Sevier funeral home in Tuttle. Cochran was born 12/19/1909 in Spring Creek, N.C., the daughter of Robert & Nippie (Calhoun) Norris, and died Monday, 5/26/1997 in Chickasha. She lived in Tuttle most of her life, where she was a housewife and a member of the Tuttle First Baptist church. Cochran was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, Nell Silvers, 1 brother, Erman Norris, and 1 granddaughter, Sharon Ann Owen. Survivors include her husband, Jesse Earl Cochran of the home in Tuttle, 1 daughter & son-in-law, Bernice N. Haney Miller & Scott Miller of Tuttle, 2 sons, Albert Haney & wife, Catherine of West Virginia and Warren Haney of West Virginia, 2 sisters, Ruby Jones & Uloia Spencer, both of Florida, 2 grandsons, Michael Ray Owen & wife Carolyn of Moore, and Kenneth Haney of Gassaway, West Virginia, 4 great grandsons, Ricky Owen, Pete Haney, Chris Haney, & Brian Haney, and 4 great granddaughters, Brenda Haney, Jamie Haney, Darlene Haney, & Ruth Haney. Interment was in Fairview cemetery of Tuttle, under direction of Sevier funeral home. |

Cochran, 71, Cathedral City, Calif, are pending with Sevier Tuttle funeral home. Mr Cochran was born 2/13/1911 and passed away April 6 in California following a long illness. He was a member of the Tuttle Christian church and has made his home in California the past 43 years. He was a retired gardner for the family of Frank Sinatra. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, & 1 sister. He is survived by 2 brothers, Turner A. Cochran of Bonner Springs, Kansas, and Earl Cochran of Tuttle, 2 sisters, Molette C. Hawkins of Gallup, N.M., and Thelma Ross of Tuttle. Interment was in Fairview cemetery, Tuttle, under direction of Sevier's Tuttle funeral home. |

Jesse Earl Cochran was born March 9, 1923 in Tuttle to Turner and Susan Belle (Downing) Cochran and died March 14, 2004 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mr. Cochran lived in Tuttle all of his life except during his military service. He served in the U.S. Navy for eight years, two months, and eight days. He and Ann Rooney were married April 21, 1954 in Tuttle and she preceded him in death. Mr. Cochran was a member of the American Legion and the Tuttle Christian Church. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Mr. Cochran is survived by one sister and her husband: Thelma Chincie and Dick Ross of Tuttle; her daughter, Susie Ross Clark and husband Frank; her son, Allen Ross and wife Angie; his wife's daughter: Bernice Haney Corley of Tuttle; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. |
