© The Chickasha Express-Star Chickasha, Oklahoma June 2, 2002 July 20, 1920 ~ June 5, 2002 Graveside service for Junia Lea Woodard, 81, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, June 8, 2002 at the Fairlawn Cemetery, Chickasha. Pastor David Thompson, of First Lutheran Church, will be officiating. Junia Lea Woodard was born on July 20, 1920, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Eddie William Shoemaker and Margurette Elizabeth McDuffie Shoemaker. She passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at the age of 81, after a 6-year battle with cancer. At age 7, she moved to Chickasha with her family. She attended Chickasha Public Schools and graduated from Chickasha High School in 1938. She attended OCW and graduated in 1942. Her family owned and operated Shoemaker Music Center. She worked for many years at Dr. R. R. Coates' office as a receptionist. On December 23, 1945, she married Max Lloyd Woodard of Albia, Iowa, and had two children. She taught Sunday School at the First Presbyterian Church for several years while her children were young. After her retirement, she worked in her yard and was known in her neighborhood for her love of stray animals. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 30 years, Max, who passed away in October of 1975; parents and grandparents; 2 brothers; Jack Shoemaker, of Chickasha, Eddie Mac Shoemaker, of Port Arthur, Texas. Survivors include: I daughter, Linda Woodruff, of Enid, Oklahoma; 1 son, Mark Woodard and wife Judy, of Chickasha, Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren, including: Elizabeth LeaAnn Dewitt and husband, Melvin Powell, of Marshall, Oklahoma; Donal Lloyd Woodruff, of Enid; Michelle Phelps and husband, Ronnie, of Chickasha; Jennifer Woodard and fiance, David Duke, of Ninnekah; Tiffany Calton and her husband, Ladd, of McCloud, Oklahoma; 5 great grandchildren; Mary Ray and Katie Lee Phelps, of Chickasha; Jessica Dewitt, of Maize, Kansas; Zackary Powell and Jacqlynn Powell, of Marshall, Oklahoma. She is survived by her sister: Margurette Inez Shoemaker, of Santa Rosa, CA; several cousins, including Ebb McDuffie and wife, Elaine, of Apache, Oklahoma, and many nieces and nephews. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Society or a charity or memorial of your choice in her memory. |
