February 15, 2014 Cora Lee Wimberly April 3, 1927 ~ February 15, 2014 Funeral services for Cora Lee Wimberly, 86, of Chickasha, will be held Friday, February 21, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Shepherd Street [Disciples of Christ] Christian Church; Minister Milton R. Bowens, Jr. will perform the eulogy, and Minister Justin Pendarvis will officiate the services. She passed away on February 15, 2014 in Chickasha. Cora Lee Wimberly was born to Grand Wimberly and Mary Caroline Johnson on April 3, 1927 in Frederick, OK. She moved to Chickasha, OK in 1948. Cora was in the 1949 graduating class of Lincoln High School in Chickasha, OK. While in high school, Cora was the "Class Vice President", "Salutatorian", and recipient of the "J. W. Kaiser Medal" for honor students. She also attended Langston University. Cora was a long time dedicated member of Shepherd St. (Disciples of Christ) Christian Church. She was a faithful member of the Choir, and Mission Circles. Cora was faithful in attendance until the end. Cora was preceded in death by both parents, Grand Wimberly and Mary Caroline Johnson. Brothers: Jessie Johnson and Robert Johnson; Sister, Geraldine Johnson-Ross. Those left to cherish the memories of Cora are: two daughters, Francis Taylor-Burdex and Rhonda Wimberly both of Tulsa, OK; one sister, Artie M. Johnson-Robinson of Kinta, OK; 5 grandchildren: Brocklyn Burdex, Hasian Burdex, Diesha Thompson-Bunch, Dante Wimberly, and Dumaria' Thompson all of Tulsa, OK; honored grand daughter, Tamara Owens of Chickasha, OK; 11 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Interment will be held at Fairlawn Cemetery Services are under the direction of Brown/Christian Funeral Home, Ricky A. Brown, Funeral Director/Embalmer. |
