Flake Todd was born January 29, 1917, and died Sunday, March 28, 2004, in Chickasha.

Funeral service for Flake Todd, 87, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at the First Christian Church, due to remodeling at the First Baptist Church.

Flake Todd was born January 29, 1917, in Bailey, Oklahoma. He was one of seven children born to Alfred and Hattie Todd. He attended public school in Marlow, Oklahoma, and graduated from high school. After graduation Mr. Todd attended Cameron Jr. College, now Cameron University, and Central State College, now the University of Central Oklahoma. Mr. Todd graduated with a B.S. in History in 1941. After graduation Mr. Todd was drafted into the United States Army, where he served from August 19, 1941, through September 23, 1945. Mr. Todd is the recipient of the Purple Heart and a survivor of four major battles, including the Battle of the Bulge.

After returning from the Army, Mr. Todd married Christine Boles in October of 1945. Mrs. Christine Todd is a retired educator and Flake's lifetime working partner. Flake and Christine are active members of the First Baptist Church of Chickasha for over 50 years.

Mr. Todd has taught in Oklahoma's public schools for thirty-five years. This includes time in the public schools of Grady, Stephens, and Pottawatomie Counties and Cameron University in Comanche County. He also served as superintendent of Grady County schools. During this time he completed his masters in education degree at the University of Oklahoma. When Mr. Todd retired from teaching he was the business manager at Cameron University.

After retiring from teaching, Mr. Todd served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. He served two terms as a Democrat from 1990 to 1994.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Todd of the home; one son and his wife, Dr. Alan and Frances Todd of Chickasha; one daughter and her husband, Cheryl and Dwain Sehon of Chickasha; two grandsons, Christopher Todd Green of Nashville, Tennessee; Adam Dane Todd of Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church.
