Ruth Marie [Akins] Talbert
March 4, 1920 ~ March 3, 2007


Funeral service for Ruth Marie Talbert, age 86, of Chickasha will be held 1:30 pm Tuesday March 6, 2007 at the North Side Church of Christ. Ruth Marie Talbert was born March 4, 1920 in Chickasha. She was the daughter of Arthur Lee and Ethel Lee [Cocheran] Akins.

Mrs. Talbert died Saturday March 3, 2007 in Chickasha. She had lived her entire life in the Chickasha area. She married Albert Roy Talbert June 1, 1953 in Texas. He preceded her in death. She had worked for the Chickasha Public Schools as cook and server for almost 20 years. She was a member of the North Side Church of Christ.

She was also preceded in death by her twin brother Ray Akins, and brothers Robert and Charles Akins. Two sisters, Frankie Smith and Lela Akins also preceded her in death.

Survivors include: two sons: Harold Talbert and his wife Pam of Cyril; Jim Talbert and his wife Lou Ann of Amber; one daughter: Susan Lee and her husband Timmy of Lawton; two brothers: Delbert Akins; Monroe Akins; four sisters: Colene Talbert; Margie Akins; Virgie Brantley; Anita Sparks; eight grandchildren and five great-grand children.

Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Chickasha, Oklahoma under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.

Lester Lee Talbert
November 17, 1926 ~ January 21, 2009


Funeral services for Lester Talbert, 82, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the Southern Oaks Church of Christ.

Lester Talbert was born November 17, 1926, in Cement, Oklahoma, the son of John and Nannie [Mitchell] Talbert. He died Wednesday, January 21, 2009, in Chickasha.

Lester grew up in Cement and graduated from Cement High School in May 1947. He then attended OSU and OU, where he received his teaching degree. He went to work for Chickasha Schools as a Biology teacher, later becoming Principal of West Elementary and later Chickasha Intermediate School which he retired from in December 1987.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army on May 30, 1945 and served a year in Alaska before his honorable discharge on December 7, 1946.

Lester married his wife of 59 years, Colene [Akins] Talbert, on February 4, 1950, in Chickasha.

He was a lifelong member and Elder of the Northside Church of Christ. He was very active in the church and loved his church family.

He enjoyed working in his flower beds and gardening was his favorite past-time. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Lester was preceded in death by both parents; three brothers: S.C. Talbert, Bill Talbert and Roy Talbert; three sisters: Betty Webster, Helen Sorensen and Ruth Reed.

He leaves behind his wife, Colene Talbert, of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law: Jeffrey and Natalie Talbert and Kenneth Talbert, and a daughter and son-in-law: Elizabeth and Glynn Richardson, all of Chickasha; brother, Gene and Jane Talbert, of Cookville, Tennessee; sister, Della Akins, of Cordell; six grandchildren: Jamie Karlsson, Summer Lee, Collin Lee, Daniel Richardson, Samuel Richardson and Jeremy Talbert; numerous nieces and nephews.

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
