October 2009 Harold E. Smith May 4, 1931 ~ October 16, 2009 Harold E. Smith, age 78, of Yukon, died Friday October 16, 2009 after an extended illness. He was born May 4, 1931 in Ponca City, OK to Charles and Eva [Spore] Smith. At the age of 18, he entered the US Army and served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was a crane operator and worked over thirty years for WW Steel Co. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Good Shepherd in Mustang, OK and was also active in the Yukon Senior Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gloria, three brothers Alvie, Melvin and George and five sisters Viola, Bonnie, Opal, Mabel and Betty. He is survived by four sons Tony Smith and wife Denise of Fenton, MI, Tim Smith and wife Angie of Deer Park, TX, Steven Foster and wife Laurie of Guthrie, OK and Robert Peery and wife Bobbi of Tuttle, OK and one daughter Cathy Anderson and husband Stephen of Ft. Gibson, OK. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2pm on Tuesday October 20, 2009 at Fairlawn Cemetery, Chickasha,OK under the direction of McNeil's Mustang Funeral Service, Mustang, OK. © The Chickasha Express-Star Chickasha, Oklahoma Tuesday, May 1, 2007 Gloria Ann [Myers] Smith February 8,1937 ~ April 29, 2007 Gloria Ann [Myers] Smith, age 70, went to meet her Savior on April 29, 2007. Gloria was born February 8,1937 to Carl and Betty Myers. Gloria attended Pocasset High School where she was active in basketball, softball and Home Economics. She graduated from Oklahoma City University with a degree in Education. She was a member of the OCU Surrey Singers and studied voice under Inez Silberg. She began her teaching career in the Oklahoma City School System and then taught in the Yukon School System for several years. Most of her years teaching were in Special Education. She sold real estate and was a counselor at The Haven, a group home for mentally ill women. She went on to finish her working career as a social worker at Traveler's Aid Society in Oklahoma City. She retired from there in 2006. She served on the board of Yukon Sharing and the REST, charity organizations. Gloria married Harold Eugene Smith on December 27, 1971. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Good Shepherd in Yukon where her favorite service was the Saturday night country gospel service. Gloria was an avid reader, flower gardener and loved being with her family and friends. She loved the color purple. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents and two infant daughters, Kayla Gwen and Gayla Lynn. Gloria is survived by her loving husband Harold of Yukon, four sons Steven and Laurie Foster of Kingfisher; Robert and Bobbi Peery of Tuttle; Tony and Denise Smith of Northville, Michigan; and Tim and Angie Smith of Deer Park, Texas; one daughter Cathy and Stephen Anderson of Deer Park, Texas; one brother Jerry and Sherian Myers of Owasso; two sisters, Marshia and Andrew Byte of Pocasset; and Brenda and Randy Cowell of Mustang; 13 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Gloria lived a wonderful life with many caring friends. Her strong faith in the Lord led her to dedicate her life to teaching, working with children and the less fortunate. Gloria was a loving wife, mother and sister, and we will miss her strong, burning light. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 2 at 10 am at Fairlawn Cemetery. |
