Mildred [Spears] Neville
May 14, 1902 ~ January 9, 2007


On January 9, 2007, Mildred Spears Neville, 104, Oklahoma City, died peacefully and with the same grace she had lived her life.

The daughter of William Edney and Carrie McCarter Spears, she was born May 14, 1902, in Water Valley, Mississippi.

At age two, her family moved to Velma, Indian Territory, and she remained in Oklahoma the rest of her life. Mildred graduated from Altus High School and attended Crescent College in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

In 1923 Mildred married Cecil Werts Neville in Chickasha, Oklahoma. She and Cecil were active members of the First Presbyterian Church of Chickasha and an integral part of the community. They operated farmland in Chickasha and ranchland in Harmon and Beckham counties in western Oklahoma. Mildred moved to Oklahoma City in 1989.

Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, her husband; two children, Sylvester Miller Neville and Carolyn Josephine Neville; and a great-grandson, Timothy Neville.

She is survived by one daughter, Norma Neville Dudley, of Oklahoma City; one nephew, Barry Spears, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; six grandchildren: Jim Neville, Morristown, New Jersey; Margaret Lambka, Naperville, Illinois; Kathryn Knight, Mesa, Arizona; Lyn Pyrum, Ada, Oklahoma; Chip Dudley, and Leslie Towery, Oklahoma City; and eleven great-grandchildren.

She emanated grace and beauty throughout her life and all who knew her will feel a great void.

The family would like to especially thank all of her caregivers, Senior Care Services, and Mercy Hospice. They did an exemplary job and enriched the last years of her life.

Funeral services, were held at 1:00 p.m., January 12, 2007, at All Soul's Episcopal Church.

Interment will be at Fairlawn Cemetery, Chickasha, OK on Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at 2:00 p.m.
