January 3, 1947 ~ June 30, 2016

Mary Jane Mitchell, long time Pawnee resident, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2016 in Stillwater at the age of 69 years.

The daughter of Rebecca Lewis and the late Charles M. Lewis, Mary was born on January 3, 1947 in Yale and was raised and educated in Cushing, graduating from Cushing High School with the class of 1965.

Mary was united in marriage to Gene T. Mitchell in 1966 and to this union one daughter, Jo Ann, was born. Gene preceded her in death in 1982.

Mary, also known to many as Aunt Mary or Grandma Mary, had a passion for taking care of others; she loved spending time with her grandchildren, family and enjoyed all the children she babysat. She loved being outdoors, whether it was fishing, gardening or camping; she was a good cook; she told many jokes; she was a great debater and she loved watching old Westerns and boxing on Friday nights.

Survivors include her companion of 27 years, Earl Dry, of the home; her daughter, Jo Ann Lann and her husband Phillip of Cushing; her mother, Rebecca Lewis of Oklahoma City; three grandsons, Gene McKinney of Chandler, Patrick McKinney of Chandler and Earl Dickens and his wife Dolci of Glencoe; one great-grandson, Grayson; two brothers, Jackson Lewis and Donnie Lewis and his wife Brenda, both of Cushing; two sisters, Patsy Williams and her husband Allen of Oklahoma City and Margie Wright of Wichita; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Mary also is survived by her cat, Annie.

In addition to her father and husband, Mary was preceded in death by four brothers, Mike Lewis, Joe Boatman, Earl Boatman and David Lewis.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 12:00 P.M. in the Memorial Chapel of the Davis Funeral Home with Pastor Sonny Johnston officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
