Ada Mae [Venable] Mayo
April 25, 1930 ~ February 21, 2007

Funeral services for Ada Mae Mayo, 76, of Chickasha will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday February 24, 2007, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel.

Ada Mae Mayo went home to be with the Lord on February 21, 2007, in Oklahoma City. She was born April 25, 1930, to Frances and Charles Venable and was sister to Bernadine Elliott, Lorraine Pearcy Franks, Bill Venable, Betty Bob Venable, Jerry Venable who all preceded her in death, and sister, Carol Uffin, of Edmond.

Ada Mae graduated from Chickasha High School and briefly attended Oklahoma College for Women before marrying her one and only love, Gene Mayo, on June 30, 1949. Together they had two daughters, Sally Robertson, of Tulsa and Karen Mayo-Albrecht, of Tyler, Texas. They have four grandchildren: Gigi Robbins, Joe Robertson and wife Lisa, Ryan Albrecht, and Bonnie Albrecht. She and Gene enjoyed traveling and spent many winters in Port Lavaca, Texas, and summers in Powderhorn and LaVeta, Colorado. They made many friends wherever they went and were especially fond of playing cards of all kinds, from No-peeky poker to Bridge.

She was a member of the Chickasha Country Club and both played golf there for awhile. She was also active in the community serving as president of the Junior Social Workers and was very involved in helping to create and operate The Thrift Store for many years. She also filled several offices in her First Baptist Church Sunday School Class. She loved going to church and studying the Bible.

When her illness slowed her down, she continued to knit, write cards to the ill and bereaved, and counsel her daughters over the phone. The positive effect Ada Mae had on the lives of many friends and family members is part of the legacy she leaves. Saturdays will never be the same without her calming and confident voice reminding her avid Sooner fans that, "The boys will be okay."

She will not be forgotten and is probably having a cup of coffee in Heaven.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation for the multitudes of loving phone calls and expressions of concern.

There will be no viewing per Ada Mae's request.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the American Lung Association at 3160 W. Britton Rd. , Oklahoma City , OK . 73120.

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
