July 25, 1924 ~ September 12, 1996


Graveside service for Joyce M. Hammons Joy, 72, of Alex, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, September 16, 1996, at the Fairlawn cemetery, Chickasha

Joyce M. Hammons Joy was born July 25, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of William T. and Gertrude E. [Byrd] Hammons, and died Thursday, September 12, 1996, in Alex.

Mrs. Joy lived for several years in Chicago. She moved with her parents to Florida where her father, W. T. was in construction. They moved to Alex, in 1930.

She married Floyd E. Joy on August 7, 1943.

They were lifelong members of Hawkins Baptist Church and lived in the Hawkins Community their married life. Floyd farmed and was employed with Standridge Implement Company in Lindsay. Mrs. Joy was a homemaker and worked at Delta Faucet until she retired in 1994. Mrs. Joy was a member in various sewing clubs and book clubs. She had numerous adopted families that all knew her a Grandma.

Mrs. Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd E. Joy in 1978, and her parents, W. T. and Gertrude Hammons.

Survivors include one daughter and her husband: Glenda L. and Bob Taylor of Alex; one son and his wife, James W. and Carolyn Joy of Norman; grandson and wife, Robert Shane and Terry Taylor of Chickasha, granddaughter and husband, Tawnya and Jeff Milner of Moore, grandson: Lance E. Joy of Noble, grandson and wife: Bret and Su Taylor of Savannah, Georgia and grandson and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Stacey Taylor of Oklahoma City, five great grandchildren and two brother: Merl and Mill Hammons of Alex, and twin: Earl R. Hammons and wife Bessie, of Bakersfield, California.

Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
