Mike J. Jaques
September 4, 1938 ~ August 21, 2015

Funeral services for Mike J. Jaques, 76, of Blanchard, formerly of Chickasha, will be held Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Sharon Baptist Church with Mark Jones officiating.

Mike J. Jaques was born in Anadarko, Oklahoma on September 4, 1938 to Marcus M. and Elsie Vivian [Jones] Jaques. He passed away at his home in Blanchard, Oklahoma on Friday, August 21, 2015. Mike lost his dad when he was seven years old and from that point on, he began mowing lawns, raising a vegetable garden, raising farm animals and eventually cutting broom corn to help his mom support the family.

When Mike was ten years old, he and his mom and little brothers moved to Chickasha. Mike attended Chickasha Schools and he met Betty Lambert at the Chickasha Public Pool in the summer of 1953. Mike played the French horn in the CHS Band and participated in the Diversified Occupation Program while in high school, working afternoons at Bolton’s Dairy. Mike was a member of CHS Class of 1957.

Mike and Betty were married on September 12, 1956 in her parents’ home and to this union four children were born.

Mike joined the United States Navy on October 26, 1956, where he finished his high school education. The work ethic that Mike developed as a young boy served him well in the Navy. During his time in the Navy, Mike received many awards and commendations. He was honored to commission two ships and the Naval Sea Support Center Pacific. His most beloved ship was the USS Horne DLG-30, a destroyer guided missile ship where he served for six years. Mike served as a fire control technician missile man. During his time at the Naval Sea Support Group, he served as a Boy Scout Troop Leader. Mike retired from the Navy with the rank of Master Chief in 1977 and returned to Chickasha.

After retiring from the Navy, Mike worked as electrical maintenance at Maremont and retired from there in 1993 to enjoy a life of RV travel for 15 years. Along the way, he and Betty saw lots of the country and made countless friends together.

Mike and Betty celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2006 with a host of family and friends. Mike was a loving father and Paw Paw. He always had a Navy or Chickasha story to tell. He was a constant teacher. One of his favorite pastimes was to drive through Chickasha and tell his kids or grandkids stories about different people and places in Chickasha. He enjoyed walking and made friends wherever he went.

On June 15, 2015, Mike accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior.

He was preceded in death by his parents; best friend and father-in-law, George Lambert and mother-in-law, Dorothy Lambert; daughter, Carolyn Bridge; and granddaughters, Vanessa Nichole Hartsburg and NaTasha Michelle Jaques; life-long friend and mentor, Ellis Alcorn.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty, of the home; son, Stan Jaques, and Shari Kinsey of Chickasha; daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Mark Jones of Tuttle, Michelle and Joe Billington of Blanchard; grandchildren, Jessica Graham and Chris, Crystal Masters and AJ, Nate Jaques and Megan, Zac and Kodi Jones, Stephanie Bridge, Wes and Raegan Jones, Jacob Bridge, Jordan Billington, Kaylie Jones, Ashton Billington, Gracie Jones, and Dallas Billington; seven great-grandchildren; brothers and their wives, Paul Jaques, Marvin Jaques, Bill and Jamie Jaques, and Fred and Fredia Hughes; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Doug and Janet Lambert; special friend, Toni Schulte; as well as extended family and friends.

Services and interment in Fairlawn Cemetery are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
